DeRozan needs more touches

He doesn't get many touches in games, usually its all Bosh, Calderon, Bargnani and Turkoglu. Should he go to the second unit? If he goes to the 2nd unit, he would definitely get more touches. Its like whenever he takes 1 shot and misses, Triano pulls him out of the game... But anyway, I think DeRozan needs to be selfish at times, because he has no other way of getting the ball, because Calderon or anyone for that matter, never pass him the ball.

I agree with the "selfish" attitude he needs to inherit but I think DeRozan's problems lie on Demar and should not be blamed on anyone else. He looks uncormfortable, often undecided, and does not have confidence in himself and thus he's the only one too be blamed. It'd be obvious to have him come off the bench because he's not contributing much as a starter but he needs to put on some size and have confidence in himself. After a discussion I had with a friend we came to the result that " he does nothing wrong but nothing right. He's just there" and that mentality needs to change.

He does look uncomfortable at times, but it's tough to get the comfort level up when you're not touching the ball on offense.

I couldn't disagree with this statement more. He makes mistakes, but he's also been doing other things very well. He rebounds on offense and defense better than any of our other perimeter players, fills the lanes on the break, and is always moving on defense. Dude's blocked a nice amount of shots for a rookie wing or a wing player period. His effort has been one of the more consistent aspects of this team, and he deserves touches for that reason alone.

If anything they should be looking to get him the ball in transition more, push the ball, let him fill the lanes and attack the basket. That's his strength. Spoon-feeding him touches in the half-court just for the sake of it is a mistake.

His 4.9ppg 3.2 rpb is not much in 18 mins. He's taken 16 shots his last 3 games made 6 of them. In nine games, if you want to count the 1 offensive rebound he makes a game, and the 4.7 shots he takes per game in 18mins, then he's doing virtually effort. If I recall correctly Rafael Araujo also have great effort, heck even Kwame Brown tries....but you earn touches, they arent given to you. Establish confidence and show your teammates that you deserve to be playing with them.

DeRozan can't really create for himself. We have enough players in the starting unit to score; DeRozan doesn't need to be selfish about scoring more points. I think where they have him right now is perfect for helping him mature without making him carry a heavier load than he can handle.

I assumed they weren't giving him any touches, because Traino and co. want him to create his own offense. Wanting him to chase after the ball with intensity and purpose. Traino needs an off. reb., energy player. Which may or may not be a mistake, just because he was that kind of player at USC does not mean he will develop into that kind of player in a NBA. Mind you at USC he was given lots of touches to create with the ball in his hands. In toronto I believe he is going to have to find chances away from the ball, off shots and off screens.

Not exactly. Most players develop and mature faster when they carry a heavier load than they can handle.
Howard, Bosh, Carter, Melo, James
those 5 names just came off the top of my head

They obviously believe he is fully capable of being a starter and the most athletic they have to try and stick with some of the best scorers out there, so they are grooming him rather than have him try and develop in practices. And I agree. You get better playing with better competition.....except Joey G.
