Derozan for MIP

NEVERMIND.. HE SUCKS

jeffb 01-04-2012 09:26 PM

If Bargnani keeps going he could be there in the mix. Still very early though.

jermyzy 01-04-2012 09:50 PM

I'd consider Kyle Lowry, Ty Lawson, and James Harden

So earlier this morning i pick up a complimentary copy of the toronto star and i'm reading an article about how Derozan has improved his range....

yeah.

forme123 01-04-2012 10:15 PM

LOL wasnt it just days ago somebody made a thread or wrote within the game thread that derozan should be nominated for least improved player if there were such an award...

fast forward maybe 2-3 games later, this thread comes out.....oh gotta love rf mentality :cookie:

If DeRo gets MIP he would probably need to be averaging 22 and 6 with 3 assists a game. But His 3 PT shooting might get him up there in the mix, its about FG to.

Windex 01-05-2012 03:50 AM

He's not even MIP of the team. Caldy and Bargs have improved. hell... even Jamal is better than last year because of the minutes he gets now.

Don Vito 01-05-2012 08:21 AM

If Bargnani keeps up his play, he will win MIP for sure.

Just like, two wins vs the lowly Cavs and one vs an Amare-less NYK team has everyone dreaming of the eighth seed. Lol

We are who we are. Which is pretty much like any fanbase. :cookie:

DeRozan won't win MIP if he continues the way hes playing, hes way too passive to get any kind of recognition. I don't remember the last time he drove to the hoop, its all boring jump shots.

He drove at least three times last night that I can think of.

Admiral 01-05-2012 08:39 AM

only way demar gets MIP is if he becomes a low level all-star player because he was already a half decent scorer, which counts for like 75% for a player's worth in this league

DDUnreal 01-05-2012 08:49 AM

You gotta go with what you see, before we didn't get to see his range has improved this much. But no, he ain't winning this award, unless he plays as agressively as he did near the end of the season last year. If he gets to the line that much and keeps shooting from deep I think he has a small chance. Also the Raps have to show the improvement in their record....

improved range is not enough to win MIP, especially when he hasn't improved to a high-level shooter at range, you need stat improvements in like all categories and pretty drastic improvements in many. There's always going to be a few players in the league that improve from scrub to star or from player to all-star, those guys win the MIP

Bill Haverchuck 01-05-2012 09:04 AM

A couple of other people have touched on the main points.

In recent years, the MIP award has been going to guys who make significant statistical leaps. So, since Derozan already had decent offensive stats last year (17+ppg, with decent FG%), it's probably harder for him to impress the voters. Even if he finished the season with 20 ppg and 37+ 3fg%, he probably still wouldn't win, because some other dude will have made a bigger leap forward. An improved outside shot is not enough to win. Like Christtrip said, Derozan would probably need 22/6/3 to win.

Yeah, same with Bargnani who was already a 21ppg scorer last season. Unless he's a 24/8 player he also has not shot. Hell, even that wouldn't do it. Righ now Lowry is probably the most likely candidate so far.

True. But not everyone who posts here agrees with each other, so we probably shouldn't lump everyone together. If the forum is referred to as one collective mind, then, yeah, of course our opinions seem contradictory; you're referring to people who disagree as one opinion. But if you just look at what individual posters are saying, then things make more sense. Not always lost of sense, but more sense. :)
