GM's need to get together and collectively decide that any stiff that spikes his performance the year before he is a UFA will get nothing more than the stats showed the year BEFORE his contract year. If your performance spikes in a contract year, you have proven that you are a douchebag, and a shitty player, period.

Yep, only guys like Fields that have terrible seasons before their contract is up should get rewarded.

I'll explain.

He's not hating on Fields' game.

He's using Field's contract as an example after a poor statistical year to demonstrate the ridiculous of SJ's post.

SJ's post is not ridiculous. His contract is pretty good in my estimation for what he can do. We have 2 years at what he's worth. If he works out great. If not, in that 3rd year the team has a large expiring to trade or worst case scenario release him and use the stretch provision - minimal cap hit. Fields contract is not going to hurt the team cap wise like some are indicating.

As for LX, his comments sound as if he's been personally slighted by Fields - he's not as bad as you guys are making it sound at all.

SJ is right, you guys gotta fucking chill about it. It's really not a bad contract or deal at all.

In a world where Hedo Turkoglu makes 11 million dollars a season, we really shouldn't be angry at how much a player like Fields makes.

Yep - it's just bothersome handing out that much money to a guy that did so much to lower his value. I get the excuses, but you still have to hit shots at least. Maybe BC is just doing the opposite of the Kapono signing, where all Kapono showed he was capable of was hitting shots.

Nobody is forced to go looking at obtaining free agents, where it is almost always a market where players hold all the cards, and sure some of them will play to get paid. And when the guy is on your team, and he is clearly only trying to rack up stats, and ignoring team principles, then you have enough indication to balk and move him. GM's should be quite capable of doing their jobs without relying on ridiculous crutches and/or excuses.

Another case of a player showing less and being offered more. By BC of all people. Now you are outlining a trend that makes me quite angry.

I can't wait until we have a shot at obtaining a really nice player, but are unable to maneuver with the cap space that is left. Can I be angry then?

I'm not really angry at all for the moment. Not with Fields at all. He deserves a shot at proving BC is capable of dumb luck. I'm simply irritated at winging a deal in some dumb attempt to shut down the Knicks' ability to sign Nash. I was preached at for two seasons, about how a plan was in place, and strictly being followed, patiently. This deal doesn't fit with what I was being told. But then again, it's hardly the first time that's happened.

Fair enough.

I'm sure that the size of the contract had something to do with making a play for Nash... I wonder what the offer would have been like if it were just a play for Fields alone. You also have to think that we were going to have to "overpay" a bit to stop NYK from matching.

this is one of the most absurd things I've ever, ever read.

so, unless you're a world class defender, penetrator, long range shooter, post game-er, you can't have improved?

hmmmmmmm.....

Wait a second...Turkoglu was the playmaking, shotmaking clutch player of an NBA finals team. He had the ball in his hands going down the stretch every game.

If anything was wrong with Turkoglu's contract is that we offered him $11MM to play a lesser role then he what he was used to.

Nothing was wrong with BC signing turk for 11M, the dude just decided to go to the clubs instead of training

This thread is about Demar Derozan. If you want to bitch and whine about Landry Fields, take it to the right thread, where you can be as stupid and ridiculous as you want.
