DeRozan and the Drew League

Judging from DeMar's twitter account, it appears that he will be once again participating in Drew League games.

Is anyone else a little concerned about this? Last year was supposed to be his big break out year, but judging from his shaky start he picked up a few bad habits from these exhibition games. It's no secret that DeRozan is a significant cog in this teams progression. DeMar should be working out with the athletic trainers, not the average Joes that show up to their local YMCA.

What is your opinions? Does it bother you that DeMar is playing pick-up games instead of focusing on improvement? Yes? No?

What I have learned is, watching drew league stuff is like watching mix tapes of players.. sometimes it don't mean anything..

but yea I did vote a yes for him to participate..

IMO i don't care as long as he's working a lot more with the coaching staff. The thing is, last summer because of the labor situation players didn't really train properly and workout with the team. They essentially were left to their own devices which in Demar's case set him back imo because he played in the Drew league where it's all about mostly flash and no structure. If he wants to play some there fine, but he needs to hit the weights and be serious about improving his strength and defense. Same goes for Ed, he better be serious about adding strength/size and improve his midrange game.

The key is for him to be doing the right stuff while he plays. If he focuses and works on his handles, pull-up jump shot, and defense (especially), then it can have a positive effect. If he gets lulled into the lazy play exhibited there so often, then it's a waste of his time.

Dude has so much to do it isn't funny. If he's doing his training, hitting the gym, getting his shots up and doing his drills, then using these guys as practice dummies isn't a bad things.

If THIS is his training, and not the other stuff...well fuck, trade him tomorrow. I'm pretty sure it's the former however. I think Demar trains hard, I also think that despite all my griping about him, he was REALLY hurt by the schedule last year. He was just starting to see results from his hard work, especially from outside and then his traiing was gone. Season starts, no time for practice, just travel and games.

Hopefully for this franchise I'm right, and both he AND Bargs make that jump again this offseason, and then sustain it.

If he Garbo's himself, everyone will have a problem then.

Its the offseason...he's allowed to have fun!, especially if this keeps him out of trouble.
He's showing love to his community by participating so there's nothing wrong with it unless he's violating his contract. Also he'll be apart of the US select team getting quality practice in with the Olympians on the national team. Just chill DK!

Straight sevens across the board. :police:

carp 05-31-2012 04:19 PM

Where was the option that DK is only enriching our lives?

Dario 05-31-2012 04:32 PM

It's an even steven! Lol.

He isn't a kid on Summer vacation dude, he's a professional athlete who is on a multimillion dollar contract to be the absolute best he can be. I find it funny that younger guys don't think that way. You really need to. The Raptors have made a massive investment into this guy and he is expected to give them a return on that investment. He isn't on vacation, he is still 100% expcted to work.

The season isn't over when you play your last game.

+1 and then some.

At least he'll get a grip of what the NBA is made of when he scrimmage against team USA.

bjjs 05-31-2012 07:26 PM

The guys who live in a fitness centre all summer get injured as often or moreso then the gymrats who can't get away from the game.

Is he not allowed to go body boarding either?

Superjudge 05-31-2012 07:45 PM

you get out what you put in. if he and jennings are playing drew league and eating fried chicken at that place they love then they are defining their own future.

dassal.

the best improve with every second they have. Demar has had enough time to rest...he was done in april.

Time to get back to work.

Anyhow, I'm not even saying he ISNT, likely he is, but it's like Chris Rock says "nigga you spposed to be training for next season". Menaing it ain't like you get a medal for doing what you are expected to do.

But if he isn't....well then, dude needs a talking to from the coach!

I don't see how playing basketball can be a negative thing, DREW league isn't going to occupy is whole time. People are just fishing for things to complain about, I could understand if he turned down opportunities to work with the coaching staff or Team USA for the Drew League but that's not the case. I rather hear him playing ball then seeing him partying up every weekend in pictures and getting into trouble with the law.

True, but if he gets injured... Meh

bjjs 05-31-2012 10:26 PM

If he gets injured he gets injured. He can't live in a bubble. If he was MMA fighting I would be concerned.
