Derozan being a starter

Quote:
DeRozan, who grew up in Compton, Calif., and left school after a year so he could make money to help pay for the medical needs of his mother, who suffers from Lupus, is going to get a chance to make an immediate impact. Head coach Jay Triano said they didn't take him to make him watch games.

"I think he's got that potential and I don't know if you can (develop) that potential by sitting on the bench and playing restricted minutes," said Triano. "I think we have to find ways to get him minutes."

So either Derozan is going to start at the 2 position or he is going to be sixth man!?

making our starting 5:
Bargnani
Bosh
Marion
Derozan
Jose

pretty good if u ask me...these 5 all together provide defense and shooting abilitys, as well as getting to the rim.

I think he'll play 20-25 minutes, only... and only if he plays D! Triano last night said "maybe" he starts. He seems to be a good defender, and i think he'll be pretty good alot quicker then most think. And i think his shot will be much improved since it's the main thing i'm sure they're telling him to work on over the summer.

Doubt Derozan will be starter or 6th until mid season and then only if he's proving himself. Expect Delfino and AP to be starting SG and 6th. Partially because they'll be promised playing time in order to get them to sign.

You need a voting option for bench player. (beyond 6th)

It wouldn't surprise me to see the Raptors playing Derozan at the three until his shot and his ballhandling round into form. Especially if AP comes back, I think you'll see Derozan backing up at the three.

I agree with Jakkal.

Zachus, although the difference between a SG and SF is not as big as a SF and Centre, I hope that if the raps play DeRozan at SF, it doesn't hold back his development like it did for Bargnani. I say play him at SG and let him learn from his mistakes.

It's more to hide his deficiencies than anything else. His lack of ballhandling and a consistent mid-range game won't hurt him as much at SF as it might at SG. Once he's spent enough time in the gym perfecting those things, he's got the tools to be a star at SG.

He's got the form on his shot to be a consistent free throw shooter, it'll come around.

I think he might start but will play bench minutes. He is not ready to play full time IMO and the only way he'll statrt is if he can inprove on his jumpshot and defense. If he can do that, I can see him starting

If he comes into training camp and blows everyone away especially if he improves his shooting over the summer, he'll be starting in game 1!

If he plays physical and he battles for the ball in the paint, he could be a starter on the Raptors. Jose, Bosh, Bargs, are more than enough offensively. All the team needs is an athlete to balance it out and do the dirty work.

This team doesn't need another skilled player who can do a bit of everything in the starting lineup, like Delfino. All they need is a player who will take the ball to the rim, move without the ball, and fight for rebounds.

Effort and athleticism has been the only thing needed to take that starting job away from AP for the past few seasons. If he brings the effort, he should be the starter. Their won't be any pressure on him to do anything with the ball in his hands, he'll be option number 5 every time he's on the court.
