I would certainly be willing to trade a couple key players in a package (Bargs, Derozan, Calderon) and at least see what package we could get. Maybe a three team trade scenario. I just don't see us going anywhere with what we currently have without trading at least 0ne or two key players because next summer we have no money to spend and it continues to look like we'll never get that SF we've needed for years.

Going forward:

Lowry
Valanciunas
Ross
Anderson
Amir
Davis
Fields (as a backup)
SG (trade)
SF (trade)

Every one of the guys we have signed to sizable contracts right now can be replaced with a cheaper player (with the exception of Bargs in terms of skillset).

I'd love to get rid of some "dead weight" and grab another pick in the 1st round next year (since we'll probably have to give ours up to OKC).

I forgot about Lucas. I'd keep him too since he's cheap and he serves a purpose.

Ed? Ugggh.

If you look at Indy, we're not that far off talent wise. Sure George and Hibbert make our wings look pathetic, but had we not wasted all that coin on Landry we could have narrowed that gap significantly. We're much better at PG though. It's one team, but it stands to reason that an upgrade at the SF and we're right there.

Also, we're stuck with Landry.

I'm not a huge fan of Ed but again... he's cheap right now and seems to be expanding his game.

You're right about Fields. It's doubtful that anyone's going to take him off of our hands now.... which is fine. I can live with him if need be. Still like his IQ and he's young.

i meant silly in terms of giving up on this team already or considering tanking, but maybe you didn't mean tank?

If he hits the gym, I'm fine with LF but he's not the elusive Battier that Colangelo is desperate for, he's Parker without the seasoning and winning experience.... which wasn't good enough for the NBA. Come to think of it, he's Alan Anderson minus his worldly experience.

Andrea might be the piece to bring in that SF we need... but he's going to be great beside JV... such a huge frontcourt. Maybe I'm just a sucker for length..........

It's not the worst idea.... if we can't upgrade the SF spot, I'd buy into that notion. I'd hate to see Bargnani's talent wasted by so many bum SF's. Dude would be a beast if he had guys like Lebron or Wade to play off of.

You can say that about a bunch of players in this league.

I'm open to all possibilities concerning building a winning franchise. If someone comes to you with an opportunity to double your money, do you not at least hear him out?

Yup. If that is the goal you need to do smart things.

No no no no no..... I DETEST tanking. Not suggesting that at all.

I just want to get rid of these bloated contracts and bring in cheaper guys who can provide the same (or similar) production.

e.g. If DD isn't going to emerge as a consistent 20-pt scorer (on close to 48% shooting) then I'd rather deal him and see his minutes go to Ross or Anderson.

I still want to remain competitive.... I just don't want to see us struggling to make the playoffs without any further shot at improving the team.

i can see that not signing fields or DD's new contract, might, might have put us in a stronger postion right now but you can't just keep hoping you get a good player in lottery, trading "failed" players for picks and hoping the next picks turn out better and putting things off for another year, and another year.

lowry would not have been happy playing for a team who wasn't looking seriously at winning games this season, may not have resigned when his contract goes, then that's a backward step again.

all those armchair GMs out there might think they could have done better, (hell i like to play armchair GM too,) but the reality is DC was looking to build a winning team and wasn't looking to build for too long. This is the team, we're going with it.

trades at some point are still an option.

LKZ, Bargs, Jose, ED or Ross (or a combination of sorts). I'm really curious to see what happens with LKZ. He has two years left on his deal (he'll pick up that PO imo). He could be an amnesty candidate as well.

i hear you, i do, but hoping for a consistent 20pt scorer is a big hope. It's unlikely ross will ever be that either, coz not many players are. So i want ross to get enough mins to get experience and develop but DD is a good player and could get better, he's who we're going with.

we're all worried about landry but he should become a player who doesn't make 6mill a year seem like crazy money. It's not as bad a contract as people make out.

almost every team wants to get rid of 1 or 2 contracts, but expecting to get players as good as DD, fields (at his best,) Amir and kleiza for SIGNIFICANTLY less is not realistic imo.

this is the team we're going with. We still have possible trades and the amnesty to give us some wiggle room.

yep, amnesty on LKZ or Amir are options.

LKZ would only save us 4.5mill odd and i would be sad to see amir go but it could give us some room to do something.
