Default Derozan adding three pointer to arsenal

If there was one glaring hole in DeRozan’s game last season, it was his three-point shooting. He attempted just 16 treys all season because of his limited range, hitting only four of them.

This summer, he’s focused on turning that negative into a positive

“Early in the morning I lift and then I go to the gym and make 300 threes,” DeRozan told RealGM in Las Vegas. “I also work on my mid-range jumper.”

He added that he’s been scrimmaging with guys like Brandon Jennings as well.

A number of DeRozan’s fellow 2009 lottery picks opted against playing in Las Vegas -- Tyreke Evans, Stephen Curry and Brandon Jennings -- but he said playing on Toronto’s summer league team was a no-brainer.

“I want to improve and it’s better than sitting at home,” said the California native, while adding that his presence was a mutual decision. “I get to be in the gym and get out there and play against other guys.”

Good. Bargnani should try to rebound 500 balls a day with Sonny, Amir and Demar standing around him trying to get the ball.

Darrick Martin can throw up the shots which will all miss of course.

Hard to say if his 3 pint shot has gotten better he only hit 2 in summer league...Only time will tell...

But if he has indeed come up with a consistant 3 point shot there is more of a chance that Weems & DeRozan will start this season which is what everyone really wants...

Everyday he makes 300 3 balls?! He must be there all day. Didn't Larry Bird only take about 100 3's before he ended his practise?

I just hope he doesn't take too many three's in the season. I want him to drive at will and get the the FT line.

lol, no. All I remember is how he would just jack up 3's and miss them. I also hated how Leo Rautins would make excuses for Dmart being a healthy scratch and say that Dmart was busy on the bench in a suit "coaching" the players, when really he was making 500 K plus to say "good job" and pat players on the back for years.

Some great Dmart videos.

Back to the topic of the thread, I'm pleased to see DD working on his range. As much as I like a player that attacks in favour of jump shots, he really needs to be respected as a shooter or defenses will just close the lanes automatically and that won't help. I hope we run plays for this kid this season so we can see what he's made of.

I think he should also be working on his ball handling too. If he's got this great work ethic and natural athleticism, he should aim at becoming an Elite 2 guard player.

He needs to work on his court vision and passing as well. He should be averaging at least 3apg if he's playing 30 mins a game. Although having good handles usually translates into being a good passer.
