Deron Williams

Amnestying Jose would mean 20 mil plus. I don't know how many teams have that kind of coin sitting around by July 1st, but makes you wonder.

1. What it would take to sign him.
2. Is he worth near max money.
2. Whether he'd come here being presented with the lineup below.

D-Wil/Bayless
Demar/Forbes
Barnes?/JJ/Kleiza
Bargs/Davis/Kleiza
JV/Amir/Gray

He's absolutely a max player.... he'd be the ideal get, but he isn't coming here unfortunately.

pzabby 03-17-2012 03:52 PM

1. He wouldn't come here
2. he's going to get max anywhere he goes, so we don't really have leeway there.
3. he wouldn't come here

unless of course DD averages 30-7-5 the rest of the season and bargs goes back to his pre injury form and JJ turns into a luol deng. :police:

D.Williams is overrated and fugly. Definitely not worth max, especially now when ambitious teams will look to gather a few stars together, so there won't be any new max deals to new recruits.
Toronto fans are so desperate, they'll give out max deals right and left. I guess cap flexibility isn't as pleasing on the eye :)

jeffb 03-17-2012 04:34 PM

He is easily worth max money.
No he will not come here.
He'll have many teams interested in giving him max money.
He's a top 3 PG in the NBA.oing

Not going to happen

Why D12 of course.

DUHH! :cookie:

Seriously though, has anyone here advicated us blowing our whole wad on one max player until this thread?

moujik 03-17-2012 04:53 PM

I remember many loved to feed max money to Christine.

ha, most were against that. besides he's easily worth 15+Mil/yr

'trane 03-17-2012 05:00 PM

so wanting 2 guys in the top 5 at their position in the league over the course of 3 or 4 years is considered wanting to give out max contracts left and right? just want to make sure i get this right...

MikeToronto 03-17-2012 05:07 PM

Deron might (and that's a huge might) be enticed to come here if we draft exceedingly well. I've said on a different thread that if his choice is, say, to come to Toronto or Dallas, then looking at the supporting cast alone, I'd choose Toronto if I were him. Main counter-argument seemed to be Dallas' perceived ability to go after him and Howard, which is a moot point now.

But, considering he is from Dallas and that we are still in Canada, I'd say our chances are not great.

Well, then Sundiata Gaines it is.

MikeToronto 03-17-2012 05:20 PM

Put it this way - I am 100% sure overtures will be made by the Raps' brass. :cookie:

There are superstars who alone would get teams in play offs and paired with another would make a team a contender.
Williams can't even do the former.

Just wait and see. After bombing this summer, I can see, BC go for broke and make TO a NY team of few seasons ago with overpriced players, because you'll be screaming for icecream.

Top3 PG is a stretch, around 5/6/7 IMO

he hasn't exactly had the most talent on any of the teams that he's been on so its difficult to say how good he can be with all the right parts

'trane 03-17-2012 05:27 PM

@moujik - just to be clear, for you the preference is 'get one of the best players in the league or don't spend any money'? is that right?

until he went to nj many said he was easily top 3. probably # 2 and most said they prefered him to cp3. it really takes very little these days for people to change their mind on a player.

We won't, that's what I'm saying! Stop fantasizing! We will not win the NBA in the next five years. We have to find another measure of success. Playing well, playing hard, battling in the play offs.
Warriors were sold out playing gung-ho with Don Nelson despite their records, so that was 'success' to them.
We can become memphis of the east, if everybody pulls in the same direction. I wish we tried that and didn't compromise.
