DeMar for MIP?

I can't think of anyone else who's had a bigger turnaround this season.

Thoughts?

For me it has to be Kevin Love

Dark Knight 03-14-2011 06:19 PM

He should definitely be in the conversation. But Kevin Love is the popular vote.

Don Vito 03-14-2011 06:28 PM

Wesley Matthews should also be a candidate.

carp 03-14-2011 06:28 PM

hump? dorell wright? scola? millsap?

jeffb 03-14-2011 06:30 PM

Love
Beasley
E. Gordon
Derozan
Mathews
Felton
Millsap
Holiday
Hibert

all candidates. I would say Love at this point is the favourite.

turk... i mean he went from completely useless on a bad team to a major contributor on a contender... ;)

Both should get major consideration too. Wes has stepped up his game this year and has helped an injury-depleted Blazers team compete in the West.

Hump is actually pretty under-rated, believe it or not. He is in NJ to grab rebounds and score points when needed, and has done exactly that.

Amir Johnson hands down (at least from Raptors). He lowered his fouling rate by 1, his FT shooting is 12% better, he added mid range jumper and he's #3 in the league in FG %.

Come on people, it's Alexis Ajinca.

Dude more than doubled his point production. 1.7 PPG to 3.8 PPG. :p

Alex 03-14-2011 06:44 PM

Demar 2009-2010: 8.6 ppg 0.7 apg 2.9 rpg 49% fg 25% 3fg 76% ft but in 21.6 minutes

2010-2011: 16.4 ppg 1.8 apg 3.7 rpg 46% fg 9% 3fg 79% ft in 34.4 minutes, also being second option.

and the apparent "favourite", Kevin Loves stats.

2009-2010: 14ppg 2.3 apg 11 rpg 45% fg 33 3fg 81% ft in 28.6 minutes

2010-2011: 20.7ppg 2.5apg 15.7 rpg 47% fg 42% 3fg 85% ft in 36.3 minutes

So yea, Kevin Love is more improved, not to mention breaking records.

Amir Johnson

ha123 03-14-2011 07:28 PM

He won't because he is a sophmore and he is "suppose" to improve. Especially now since Bosh is gone and he has more shot attempts.

He has only improved his offense IMO. He has to get better in other areas as well.

I think Humphries will get consideration, he has been beasting latley.

Ligeia 03-14-2011 07:43 PM

LaMarcus Aldridge might also be a serious candidate. The only thing holding DeMar back is that some will view it as part of his "natural progression" and may not reward him in the same way that they might reward a (slightly) more veteran player.

Awards or not, I like what I've seen from DeMar and I'm optimistic about the future.

I think Love will get it. Eric Gordon is a good consideration along with Derozan and Matthews. But for me, Matthews had to improve to replace Roy. Felton no because his numbers have dropped since the trade. Millsap no for me because since Boozer is gone, there's more plays and touches for him. Holiday and Hump are considerations too, but I'm still not sure on Holiday, Hibbert is a candidate for MIP too. He was considered for it earlier in the year. DD should be a candidate, he's a gym rat that improved his jumpshot.

Belsius 03-14-2011 07:55 PM

Rose, everyone knew he would be good. But not this good.

LX 03-14-2011 08:08 PM

I really dislike this award. It's hard to figure out the parameters and how they are in any way meaningful. And it usually ends up being about a player that finally meets some expectations after being a stiff or a bum.

carp 03-14-2011 08:16 PM

darko? if we get past just offensive stats....

MISAM38 03-15-2011 07:35 PM

Even thou Kevin Love is the most improved player from the league, i still doubt hes gonna win it. Last year IMO i think the MIP had to be either Durant or Rondo, because they had a breakout season. But who did they give the award too??? they gave it to Aaron Brooks, who i strongly beleived didnt deserve it. IMO i think LaMarcus should be MIP not cuz of his stats, but more of his effort to put Portland as a contender and in a playoff spot with brandon roy down. but thats just IMO. Theres a real good chance Demar can get away with it.

x_kaptain_x 03-16-2011 11:11 AM

Yeah, I agree with those who said MIP is a shitty baseless award, it's too hard to judge. Hell, just give that to Blake Griffin as well! it's only his first year but look how good it would look for the NBA! he's borderline god!
