Default DeMar DeRozan a Quick Learner

Quote:
The NBA pre-season is not about wins and losses or points and rebounds or even shots taken, missed or made.

It is about what's known in some places as "learning opportunities" and they are coming fast and furious for Raptors rookie DeMar DeRozan.

In what's amounting to a nice dose of tough love from his coaching staff, DeRozan is finding himself in and out of games quicker that you can say "blown assignment" through four exhibitions so far
Raptors' DeMar DeRozan proving to be quick learner - thestar.com

DeRozan's improved on something every game and has definitely looked progressively better each game. Seems like a good kid who isn't taking anything for granted or getting complacent.

He proved this in College, he got much better as the season went on. The start of the season will present more challenges for him as the intensity gets amped up, but he'll adjust again and will continue to improve as the season goes on. He'll have his nights were he looks amazing and other nights he'll look lost, make major gaffs but that's just part of a rookie season. But i like what i'm seeing from him, from his attitude to admitting his mistakes and wanting to improve and he seems to work hard.

he will be a good player in time but I don't want to hear comparisons to VC, he will probably never reach his level

Yeah the comparison is rediculous. But never say never. Let's just not talk about it and let him develop and in 2-3yrs see where he is.

Granted its only been four games, one thing I like is this kid hasn't taken a step back. While hes been inconsistent within games, he's been better overall each game and that's a very positive sign.

I think he will become a good nba player ... hard worker, consistent/dependable, good team player, etc ..
Lets not start making the guy an all-star ... too much pressure.
He has good athletic skills, but no where close to what the reports were saying.

Hopefully he continues to grow some and fill-ins his small frame ... if this occurs, then there is a chance for him to become something special. Without dominant physical attributes, a good nba player is what we should hope and expect for ...

I like what I see from DeMar so far. He is a rookie and there will be some bumpy games, but you can notice his desire to became great. Regarding comparison with VC, he may not reach the level of VC skill set but I hope DeMar will never became a crybaby and let Raptors down. I would rather prefer a DeMar DeRozan committed to play basketball for Raptors as long as he is a Raptor than a great VC dogging it to force his way out.

He's a great player and everytime he got on the court he has always been improving his game.

I've been really impressed with his work ethic and he has a knack for heading to the rim, something the Raptors have desperately needed since what seems an eternity.

O.k. than. But do you mind if i compare Sonny Weems to him. He's got the same explosiveness and body type and i find him to be the most exciting player we've had here since Vince. That first step of his when he carries the ball is some kind of powerful, he will beat most anyone off the dribble. I know i'll take a ton of flack for that one. It will be interesting to see if he can do it consistantly and now that he's hurt, hopefully isn't the kind of guy who's allways befelled by injury.

No, I haven't either. I've only seen Bosh, Turk and Jack giving him pointers in between time on the court.

From about 25 feet away, that put-back dunk was even more impressive than on the tube. DeRozan timed his run while the shot was in the air leaping at the precise moment to snag the ball as it came high off the rim.

If DeRozan can prove he really has that kind of court vision and this wasn’t just aggressive luck, the Raptors really do have a special player here. Time will tell.
From Row E at the ACC: Raptors vs Wizards

His pre-draft camp measurements say DeRozan doesn't have Vince's hops. But I did like the descriptions of him as a bigger "Courtney Lee" and similar to Iguodala.

That impressive put-back dunk was directly attributed to in-game coaching. DeRozan listens and implements what he's been told - good sign!

his running jump is actually VERY impressive, almost as impressive as carter's standing jump. He jumps higher than josh smith, tyrus thomas and much much higher than chris Bosh did in rookie measurements.

And, most of the time, it's the running jump that counts, because rarely do nba players jump from stand still, unless they're trying to block a shot.

It's really too early to compare D.D to anyone. He's so smooth and effortless out there, but you just know that when he gets older he will likely be much more explosive. It was nice to finally see Demar play in a little more traffic last game because that's where the most doubts will be raised in his first couple NBA seasons.

Dude.

He's 20. And he's 6'6" 225. He is pretty rock solid.

He might need to get in better shape, but he doesnt have a small frame.

really?

wow.

He definately looks less imposing than those numbers imply, but yeah - the guy is still a kid so i'm not complaining at all.

Just wait a few years when his filled out... Leo will be making innapropriate compliments about his physique on a routine basis.
