you know when you just have a bad feeling about a player...
it may be so insignificant or stupid, but you just have a bad gut feeling? thats me.

I was never sold on his athletic prowess from day one like a lot of people in here were... and after hearing about his poor showing in the combines, it got even worse for me.
I'm sorry, but if a kid is supposed to be a monster/freak athlete, shouldnt he be dominating in almost every aspect of the NBA draft combine? but i digress.

to me, the nail was in the coffin when he refused to work out with other players for his draft workouts.
right there it shows weakness... mental, insecurities, passion, aggression, competitiveness.... why would a player refuse to workout with other draftees? i cant think of one good reason or answer to that question? the only positive answer was that DD felt bad for the other players, he didnt want to embarrass them with his dominating skill.
his refusal to work out with others was the icing on the cake for me.
whether he's mentally weak or physically weak (not skillful enough), somethings gotta give.

the guy i wanted was off the board at 9, but comapring those two was night and day: Tyreke Evans.
he pretty much told all teams to book him for workouts, and challenged any players to workout with him.
if thats not a winning and confident mentality, then i dont know what is.
not only did he openly challange all comers, but he wiped the floor with them.

other than Evans, there were a few players i had in my depth chart above DD.
Henderson, Lawson, Clark, TWill, Jrue.
i would have been happy with any of these guys.

in the long run it doesnt matter, whats done is done... i havent been optimistic about past players and they've come back to bite me in the ass... and this is one time i'm hoping to get bitten really hard and say i was wrong.

WTF?

It's a givin that they would want the guy, he's the reigning king of the dunk contest in college, Macdonalds allstar etc.

Sometimes you say shit because it's just real. He isn't out of line at all if you ask me.

That's understandable.

At least I can count on you to give me a legitimate explanation rather then just "I don't like him".

I had a lot of the same concerns regarding the combine [which according to my experience can NEVER completely accurate], workouts and the general vibe from him and his agent.

But in the end, BC and Triano both saw things in this kid that none of us have seen so that counts for something in my books. I've seen plenty of footage of DD and fundamentally, I like what he brings to the table. He seems like a ball-hawk type of player who will push the transition game at every opportunity.

Obviously there are going to be aspects of his game he needs to improve, but then again, so does Chris Bosh, Lebron James and Dwight Howard. Nobody's perfect, you gotta go through the challenges and adversity to become a better player and if that's what DeMar wants to do, I'm glad that he can do that on our team...

Just a reminder. I wasn't a supporter of Derozon. I wanted us to draft Dejuan Blair.

To me the combines mean very little. See Joey Graham.

I also think much of the weaknesses that came out about his game, reflected more of his poor start in college, rather than his strong finish.

I also have to give him a chance to show that he can defend. As a rookie that is going to only have so much value, and I probably would have preferred a guy more NBA ready for that reason alone, but I like that he emphasizes defense anyway (that is if you don't think he is putting too much emphasis on dunk contests).

And he has to be able to play and contribute more than Jamario Moon at least. Rookie or not. Wing players do not have to put that much together to stay on the court if they can hold their own defensively, or at least play well within team defensive schemes. If he is as much of a gym rat as I've heard, and has any kind of learning curve (and his year in college shows some evidence to that end), then he's going to have some impact in his first season here, or he will have been an over-hyped, wasted pick.

The ball is really in Triano's court with this kid. He needs to keep Demar focused on the right things, keep him working to improve, and make him mesh with what is here.
