Delfino: Can't Wait to Come Back to the Raptors

Quote:
I just finished watching Carlos Delfino on a midnight soccer talk show called "Gol de Media Noche". There were a few interesting points he brought up about Toronto and the NBA.

1. He wants to come back to Toronto. He has travelled around the US while playing for the Raptors, and for him Toronto is his favorite city not only to visit, but to live.

2. He considers Jose Calderon a true friend, which according to him is rare in the NBA.

3. He said Ben Wallace was a monster (in size). He was a nice guy, but said that during his year in Detroit, Ben and other players spent most of the year making fun of the fact that Carlos couldn't speak English.

Ben Wallace will soon be awarded a whole wing in the "Douche bag hall of fame".

4. When in Detroit, the constant battle of Egos prevented any real team spirit from developing. Players would immediately go home after practices or games. But according to Delfino, this was not the case in Toronto. While playing for the Raptors, the players constantly went out together to the mall, dinner, eachother's houses. Everyone played their part to keep the locker room together.

In short, he went on a bit about how competitive the NBA was and how he can't wait to come back to the Raptors.

I'm starting to wonder how good a thing this would be. With Jack now in the fold where are all the minutes going to come from? Good teams have talent that sits on the bench but typically they're more veteran talent that understands why they're on the bench. Guys like Delfino, Jack and Wright aren't that guy.

Great news.

Bad for Ben, at least we in Toronto know the guy is a dick.

If we should boo anyone coming back to play in Toronto, it should be Little Ben.

I like Delfino.

In fact, more and more, I like the attitude I am hearing from a lot of different players from outside of North America. I respect team players and guys that get the team concept. I would love to see an all-non north american team built with the top guys. It would not only be a good team, but it would be a good vibe!

i agree SJ, Carlos would be a good addition, and he would be worth the 5 million he wants, or close to it... and Rasho would be a good SOLID post behind bargs...

get it done! so then we can discuss the Roster and not what may or may not be!!

but if delfino signs, hes going to be piss as hell, there is no minutes for him. 5 mil for a guy that sits on the bench is stupid. Either trade and get time for delfino or let him go

Because other then Wright, we have nobody proven @ the 2/3 spots.. of course behing Turkoglu. The fact is who knows how Derozan is going to adjust, George sucks ass, Douby imo isn't good enough and Jack will primarily be playing behind Jose (at least that seems to be the case especially if Delfino comes back). Another wing player which you know what to expect doesn't hurt. And heaven forbid we don't get Delfino, and Turk or Wright suffers a big injury.

Wings with Delfino:

SG-Wright/DD/Delfino/Douby
SF-Turk/Delfino/George

Let's construct a team of players that think that Toronto is a great place to live. And then we can love them even if they suck. And yes I'm being sarcastic. I'm sick of hearing about player's reaction's to this city. Are we that needy? Didn't self-proclaiming Toronto as a World Class City do enough to assuage us? How about just showing us some nice basketball.

And Delfino, when he was here, did not really appear to get the team concept so much. He forced things way too much. I'd love to see him as a role player, but I'm not sure what role he would have on this team that would fit him. He wants to have a pretty large role, I would suspect, and that doesn't seem to be what he would get. But if Triano thinks he can figure it out then go for it.

So after years of hearing about players not wanting to come here, we finally hear players want to come here and appreciate the City, and that isn't good? Kinda funny since most here have posted at one point or another "he won't want to come to Toronto"...or "why would he want to come here?"

Thanks for

1. not giving my post ANY actual thought. I'm not a 14 year oild kid, try to at least humour the writer and think about what he's saying.

2. I know we all have our opinions, but anyone who thinks delfino is a poor player needs his head checked. His job was to force the issue when he played, he had a green light, and was one of few that did. Nobody complained when he would drop 15 in 5 minutes to bring the team back, just when he took 1-2 bad ones and missed. At what point do you look at your "franchise guy" and ask him to take over. Perhaps if Bosh has that year, streaky dudes like |Delfino wouldn't have been placed in a position to fail in the eyes of causal fans.

Wings with Delfino:

SG-Wright/DD/Delfino/Douby
SF-Turk/Delfino/George
jack is going to eat up major minites at the 2 spot leaving the rest to be shared by wright and derozan, time left at the 2 will be minimum, at teh three turk is going to eat up most of the time leaving some to george and derozan Delfino is going to eat up time left by all these people, something that will make him shyt his pants in anger. Also lets say if delfino is amazing and plays shyt loads of minutes because of it, Derozan will than get even less burn gaining less experience and bitchin on the bench. So will wright if he has to bench warm for extended period of time. These are young lads who wants minutes, something that Raptors dunt have enough to give. Either get a verterin that dunt mind sitting on the bench, or cut some of the wing players and divide the playing time between the players giving them each significant time to work

If Delfino is as you said amazing he would probably start and DD would be his primary backup w/20MPG. Then Wright would play @ SF behind Turk.

Exactly - I'm sick of hearing about it in any respect. It's a dumb hangup that means nothing one way or another. Build a strong franchise that competes year after year and players will come. And I'll be a happy fan.

And SJ - I'm confused if you're replying to me. Are you saying that Delfino would have no problem fitting with the current lineup? I just don't see it. And I honestly failed to see him actually carrying the team. He forced shit. Sometimes it worked out and sometimes it didn't. In the right role I would have no problem giving it a whirl and making use of the Bird's rights to get him. But unless they trade Wright or something, I think they are going to be risking confusing the team concept more than solidifying it.

you can always use better players LX, period. It's how ok teams become good teams. Good teams again make the jump when they get stars to play support roles behind superstars and cohesive units.

Delfino is a good player, period, having him is good. Does it create a glut of guards, yes, and last year there were none.

Competition is good, and when one of these guys becomes a complaining bitch, Colangelo has shown he is not shy about making a move to keep team chemistry strong. So, I like the idea, and I like Delfino. He is agressive, and he plays hard, and he also has swagger and a killer smile for the ladies!

ur forgeting about jack, that guy is not going to be happy just playng mintues left behind calderon. So at the end its either jack or delfino that is going to be sitting on the bench bitching

I don't totally disagree SJ. Delfino's problems here were at least somewhat about not having enough around him. I'd still rather see him stepping into a pretty well defined role role with well-defined minutes. I like him being aggressive as well, but I'm into the importance of roles in the team game. And Delfino's aggressiveness has become a bit of a weakness when it's landed outside of a well-structured role.

No guards last year, too many guards this year, and I can't say I'm complaining.

If BC can get Delfino, great, exciting even, it's making us that much deeper and we'll see a better team as a result. If BC can't get Delfino, that's fine, but who knows, maybe the team averages half a point less per game, and that translates into two more losses.

Nothing wrong with overpaying for a little extra insurance at the two guard in Delfino, but I don't see it as a necessity. Again, we've got a better team if it happens, but it's far from a make or break move. Inking Rasho, on the other hand, is something that needs to get done.
