Default Deja Vu

the way things are going this year i am feeling like i have seen it before. twice sort of.

You probably assume i am refering to last season (and yeah there's definitely a sense of that), but the other year that comes to mind is the 2006-07 season where we went on to win the Atlantic (the first full Colangelo year).

We started that season poorly. After 19 games, our record was exactly the same as it is now. 7-12. There were lots of new players and the team was totally feeling itself out. There were strings of losses all over the place in the early stages of that season and things didn't really start to get rolling until the middle of december. The team was 7-14 by the time they started to win more consistently.

if you want to see how that year went down, click here for the fixtures

Now there are some clear similarities to last year too... but there are also factors that make me think we won't have a repeat of that this time around.

the point is sometimes when things aren't looking all that hot we need to stand back and realize that it isn't time to hit the panic button just yet. That's why Triano won't get fired tomorrow, and why Bosh, Bargnani or Calderon won't be traded tomorrow.

I still have faith that this team can get it rolling like the 2006 team.

great post fancy. frankly i'm just glad i get to watch nba basketball in canada. i grew up watching players in other cities and wishing i could see live games. now that's no reason for complacency, and no reason to accept shite and call it entertainment, but it is good reason for patience. not every move will work, and sometimes your team will just play like crap, but at the end of the day it is your team, and i love the fact that i have the opportunity to support them.

we won't see 06-07 and we won't see 08-09 because this is a new year, but history has clearly shown us that we also can't predict what 09-10 will bring this early into the season. lots of games left to play.

I wasnt here in 06-07, but did the team look as lost as now?
Was Defense some sacred knowledge they don't have?

I can see the point why its not the same as 08-09, bench being the biggest factor. But remember, we do have the same coach...

Fantastic post, mate.

Not a fan of the negativity around here right now. The newbie fanboys are killing me, son. Killing me.

You'd know that when you introduce 9 new players into a system including 2 starters, it takes some time to build some cohesiveness, and to see what works and what doesn't. Or perhaps you don't know that. If you didn't, my bad.

Yeah the team looked lost and we arguably had a coach who was even more disliked by raptor fans.

click the link and take a look at how that season went. It should put some people at ease when looking at this current group.

Nice. Somebody started a thread about this. Comparisons to the 2006-2007 team have come up a few times but it's nice that maybe more people will think about it by reading this thread. Like this year, in 06-07, you heard a lot about "finding an identity." Both teams also had a really tough schedule during the first 20 games, which may hide some of the potential.

Interesting, because I remember that season we had a big game against Orlando, in Orlando (without Bosh) that we needed to win. (A late December game I believe).

Fast forward now and same thing happens. Interesting.

That years team didn't even reach .500 until Jan. 26th so we ahead of schedule! Hopefully Raps can keep it up and finish strong again this year.

the raps were 22-22 when they finally reached .500 in the 06-07 season, ended the season with a 25-13 record. We play like that again and we can pull off 50. Think will Bosh stay??

If we win 50 games I think that Bosh stays FOR SURE. As long as the money is there.

If we can somehow win 50 games, i may be convinced that Bosh is a max player.

If we can somehow win 50 games, it will most likely be the result of the rest of the starters and role players stepping up

Sure, but Bosh would be a big part of that. He usually is. However, the main point is that a 50 win team (with a fairly young core) is one that you would want to keep together.

If fancy is right with his prediction (which it very well could be), I guess it means it'll be another 1st round exit for us.
