Raptors DC: Lowry is in shape, has lost 15lbs

This was posted on RealGm. A lot of good info, interesting read.

Quote:
Q: Klow - I loved the guy in Houston, loved the acquisition when it happened, did well in the begging on the year, then tailed off. What happened? and is He STILL the GUY for this team?

DC ...(para phrasing) Lowry has the skill set to make him a great player. Kyle (and he'll the first to tell you this) was in the worst shape of his career coming into this season. He missed training camp bc of the abdominal injury and even when he came back he wasn't 100%. Once he went down, Jose came in and we reeled off 5-6 wins in a row. That added to the psyche of Kyle. First injury now his role being compromised. When he returned, he still wasn't 100% and got fatigued often. There were times when you saw guys blow by him, not because he couldn't stop them but bc he was out of shape.

He's butt heads with alot of coaches in the past... Iavarroni, Mchale etc. Kyle is a competitor and everyone knows that. Him and I have spoke alot and he knows that I NEED him to be at his best at all times. This is a big year for him. I've told him that this is his year and his shot. He's got to be in the best shape of his career and be ready to take this team to the next level. It's there for him to take. I've been texting Kyle alot, and he's already lost 15 lbs. It's great news and we are looking for him to be the guy - not just THAT GUY in a contract year. I've told KYLE, I've been spoiled with PG's in the past, I had PAYTON and JKIDD in the past.

At the end of the year, we will assess if he is the right guy for this team in the long run. (he said this twice... which made me think a bit as to maybe there's something more).

our season ended late april right? so in a month or so he's lost 15 pounds. nice commitment from the guy. that's half a pound a day. and it's not like he was actually "fat". he was fat compared to other top athletes. so losing at that rate, at his actual body weight, was a very difficult task. for example, losing 15 pounds in 30 days when you weigh 400 pounds is a hell of a lot easier than at 200

kudos to kyle

The more I read or hear Casey discussing this team and his idea's, the less I want
him back. He's happy to keep the team as it is and try for 8th/7th. Casey STFU and get out of town.

really depends on metabolism, some can loose weight very easily others can't. Some actors do it loose/gain all the time for the movies

I'm pretty sure those movies weren't filmed in the chronological order that they were released, though. A couple were in production for quite a while and some scenes shot far apart. I think I remember hearing somewhere that Bale's weight loss wasn't quite as yo-yo like as that timeline. Still, what Bale did with his body is very impressive. Even just the body transformation from A-Psycho to Machinist to Batman is amazing.

machinist to batman is insane. 30 kg gained in a year? I don't think that's even possible. you must be right about them being shot in different timescales than shown there

Well, it's worth noting that Hollywood actors aren't drug tested athletes. Players would undergo much more dramatic changes in body composition if they could eat clen and shoot juice and GH.

Careful now, there are some here that will shred your post apart looking for mistakes. I've done the weight loss thing like KL did. Losing 15 lbs for an athlete (not that I'm on that level but I am in shape) that's overweight to begin isn't that bad - especially with all the water KL was probably packing around. Now, to be 'in' shape and lose 15 lbs would take months if done right.

Doesn't sound like Casey has any intention of tanking, which is ok for me as I want my coach to win no matter what. I wouldn't worry though, if the GM wants to tank, it won't take much to move some pieces or have players with long term injuries to ensure the losses pile up - if that's the direction.

Pretty sure they are. He basically starved himself to lose weight for the machinist in 3 months losing a ton of muscle and doing something which is pretty bad for you. And he put it back on fast but I'm pretty sure if athletes use steroids/HGH, so do movie stars.

If Lowry lost 15 lbs that's more like 10 lbs becuase 5 lbs slams back on a week of normal eating (or maybe 2-3, depends on how big you are).

that's not true. if you overeat sure it comes back fast. if you eat what you should be consuming you gain maybe a pound or 2 back of water weight. nothing more

lowry was far from what's considered "overweight for the average guy" last season

1. teams that are tanking dont say they are tanking, ever, its against the effin rules guys, like, not the unwritten rules, the actual effin rules. jesus.

2. Gotta love guys like Lowry. Say all these things about how bad ass they are, how hard they are. He was out of shape, fat, whiney, and listless. Injuries played a part, yep. Guys here crapped all over people who called himout for this, saying, "oh he aint fat, he's just a big dude, he's muscular" and what, now he's commended for working out in the offseason? Are you guys this simple? Its a contract year, he is preparing to sort himself a big contract, NOT IN TORONTO. Just like Bosh did.

Toronto is a farm team. And Lowry didnt give a shit last offseason or he wouldnt have been fat coming in. I dont hate him, but I aint giving him any high fives for last year, and certainly none for...GASP....working out in the offseason.

Don't care what his intentions are. His thought process says: same shit, same pile.

If Masai really is good, he let's Lowry have the contract year- until the trade deadline, when he sends him packing for a pile of asset's while Lowry is at a high point.

Great points all the way through and I agree especially with your last statement.
