Definitely a game to forget for Jose. Awful shooting and he didn't even have an assist. :(

BTW, I definitely foresee a Lithuania vs. USA final. Lithuania's been unstoppable in their pool too. Should be interesting.

Who is lithuania's best player?

I too feel that this year's USA team has a date with gold. They have too much depth at PG and star power that just overpowers the world, combined with a determination on D instilled by Coach K and the rest.

Nonetheless, Greece, Lithuania, Spain and Argentia (and even Croatia) are threatening teams with shooters, solid team play and that bleed their countries' colours all over the court.

In particular, I think Spain (even after today's bad loss) and Argentina are threats that cannot be taken lightly by even the US.

With Paul, Deron, LeBron, Wade and Bosh all on their A game the USA is too much for the world, but a bad lineup with Carmelo, Redd, Kidd and Dwight Howard all taking bad shots could potentially shoot themselves out of a game as well. I don't think Coach K will let it happen, but it's fun that there are teams that can actually compete with the US.

As for today's obliteration of Spain: the USA is definitely impressive, but bear in mind that Spain is also trying out a bunch of things (most of which failed). They tried a small 3-guard lineup today with Calderon/Fernandez on the court with Rubio and Navarro (it failed miserably). They played 4 point guards today total (Lopez, for example, will not get PT in important games since they have Rubio, Calderon and Fernandez on the team as well). Also, Navarro may see a quick trip to the bench if his shot isn't falling in favour of the more versatile Rubio or Fernandez at the 2 in tournament play.

Garbajosa looks like he still isn't in top shape and may not get much burn in the tourney (though we'll see, he could play at the 3).

They totally miss what Jorge used to be able to bring. I think that if he can't play bigger than what he is, that he is just a liability. It saddens me too.

That's good news Bel. I guess there's hope he can be effective outside the NBA for some time then.

maybe if they weren't so hot from 3pt range in the first hald, the game would have been different. When the 3pt shot is failing - they are unbeatable, because it opens up the game. Also, Spain had too many turnovers and they didn't try to control the tempo too hard. I think it will be a different game in the finals, if they get there. But all in all, it's going to be hard to beat the americans this year.

I can't wait to pullout the thread from a few weeks back when myself and a couple others were getting ripped for saying this US team was gonna destroy.

It was, is, and will be obvious why.

I will be the first to acknowledge that I was wrong when and if Americans win gold - but that has to happen first.

IMHO, Spain didn't try too hard to win the game. It was more of a test for them. Elimination games will be very different.

To Americans' credit, they did shoot the three very well vs. Spain, for the first time in the Olympics. Let's see if this holds.

If Team USA brings the same preparation and dedecation as any team in the world, there is no contest, the only hope is you get an ill prepared, dysfunctional team, not the case, they outclass everyone by so much. They have always been the best, just not the most focused, people get that confused.

They have a point to prove now, the beatdown of Spain is the beginning.

Gurk 08-17-2008 10:19 AM

After watching yesterday mornings game I have a feeling USA will win gold
