Ed Davis said he is up to about 233 or 234 pounds after ending rookie season at 216 #raptors

Some maybe, but these days guys play all summer long and generally stay in shape imo.

That is GREAT news. If he can add another 10lbs or so by this time next year he should have that classic NBA PF type body.

Looking forward to seeing what he can do with that extra mass.

Good news, but it seems like there have been concerns about Davis wanting to stay in Toronto. Can someone point me in the right direction to learn more about this?

DDUnreal 12-03-2011 10:30 PM

strictly rumors I thought...

Ed Davis knew he would have to hit the weights hard in order to build off of a solid rookie campaign.

Davis’ father, Terry, a former NBA bruiser, told a Raptors scribe late last season that Ed would be “sleeping in the weight room.”

Mission accomplished. The University of North Carolina product said he used his extended time in the gym in Los Angeles wisely.

Davis, who said he finished the season weighing a slight 216 pounds, now seems more equipped to battle with the league’s burly veterans.

“I got to like 236 (pounds) at one point, I’m probably like 233, 234, somewhere in there now,” Davis told the Toronto Sun.

Gotta love players that give the extra effort in the off-season during the lockout. Nicely done by Davis, it will pay off big time for him.

Not even rumors. Paranoia and an inferiority complex on the part of some fans. Nobody of any note has thought he wanted to leave or suggested anything of the sort.

Acie 12-04-2011 11:45 AM

Yeah, his dad had gas at the draft and somhow the look on his face while he blasted one was miscontrued as disapproval of his son being selected by the Raps.

Whenever anything like this is brought up you always say this. I guess we'll see in a couple years. I always had the impression he wasn't thrilled to be here. I never really felt that way with guys with Derozan, Bayless, Amir, Calderon and others. Now it could just as easily be his personality which is just as likely i suppose. Like i said we'll see soon enough.

Are you saying someone of any kind of note has suggested anything of the sort? I'd like to see evidence. Your impression doesn't mean much. If he wasn't over the moon to be on a team that is full of holes then I would consider that a positive. What we will likely see is whether enough holes get filled to be enough cause for some excitement. I still wouldn't count on seeing him all beaming and full of light. He's a no-nonsense, get-the-job done kind of guy. Most cities would welcome such a demeanor. In Toronto we get guys on message boards, like you, offering a sense of what their impressions are in some random moments and discounting what is a pretty clear commitment on the court.

Cosmo 12-04-2011 01:16 PM

It's nice to see that guy is working on himself and really wants to play big game. Can't wait to see what he can do next season.

10gizzle 12-04-2011 02:00 PM

Lots of players would be displeased with getting drafted to a perennial losing franchise.

It's funny how quickly things can change though. 1 winning season. 1 season of significant improvement. 1 season of good relationships within the team. I have a feeling this guy will stick around.
