Davis: Griffin matchup was 'personal'

Quote:
Ed Davis made sure the Los Angeles Clippers took notice this time around.

The Toronto Raptors rookie had 13 points and a career-high 14 rebounds in a 98-93 victory over Los Angeles.

Davis, the Raptors' first-round pick in the NBA draft, said he wanted to put on a show against the Clippers and their highlight-reel rookie Blake Griffin.

"It's a challenge you know," said Davis. "One, this is one of the teams that passed on me in the draft and then going against Blake. I take it personal."

Davis played 36 minutes, shooting six for eight and blocking three shots. In contrast, Griffin scored 21 points on 7-for-13 shooting from the floor and had 15 rebounds.

"Everything," Raptors point guard Jose Calderon said when asked what impressed him about Davis. "His rebounds, he was in the post, he played really good defence against Blake. It was a great game for him, he helped us win tonight."

Davis played well enough to make an impression on Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro.

"I thought he played well," Del Negro said. "I saw some film of him and I thought that he did a nice job against Portland. He was active ... kind of flashed us a couple of times and hurt us a little bit. He's a young kid, getting his feet wet a little bit. He was a factor tonight that's for sure."

Quickly becoming my favourite player. He's mature for his age. Nose for the ball, rebounds, blocks shots and doesn't normally get into foul trouble. All great signs for a player this age. He just seems very poised and under control whe he's out there imo. If he can develop a bit of a mid range game and improve his FT shooting he'll be dangerous.

I like this guy. Solid prospect, he's tough, and he's a winner.
Too bad he's not guetting the ball more often in the post.

I agree. This guy is really mature for his age (esp when you look at the cousins fiasco in sac-town) and he's gonna be even better in a few years.

Screw the people who wanted us to make the playoffs last year, we would have never gotten Davis....

Hopefully he gets a good amount of time against Bosh tomorrow and takes that personally as well.
Could be a fun match-up, and he'd definitely learn a thing or two.

Davis is gonna be really good. But obviously the Clippers passed on him because they already had a PF.

I agree. With Derozan, Davis, Amir and what ever pick we get this summer (Irving, Barnes, Jones) it would then be great to ship off Jose and Andrea to bring in some established players which would be the last few pieces remaining from the Bosh era.

I think this draft pick will be a big factor in the organizations future. I am comfortable seeing Demar starting in the future (as things stand now) and I think Davis has great potential at PF.

So if we can get an SF or PG (as mentioned above) really we just need so sign a centre and we have good potential moving forward

I really think honest ed is our pf of the future...with dd showing such a great work ethic he'll be our sg for yrs to come Bargs yeah he doesn't fit in the loop..stretch the defense with your perimeter game all you want on another team gimme a ed davis type centre and we're good to go...even weak at the pg spot we'd make the 8th spot with a grinder type centre of ed's calibre

I like Davis.

Who's they take instead of him?

With Griffin there, did Davis think he should be?

If I were griffin I'd dump 50 on him next time they played.

There is non question about his defensive ability, he can only improve. He should increase his weight since he plays mainly on the boards... without a proper jumper he's limited on the offense and the free throws are really a problem for now but i bett that he can quickly improve in both these aspects, this guy seems to have such a strong will

he can already get around 10 points a night without an offensive game.
can't wait until he develops that part of his game and the defense will be there

I think that he has a lot more "offensive game" than people think.

He's great at getting position and thats a skill MANY players have a hard time with, and it's a huge offensive skill.

Confidence
a bit of weight
and more touches and he's a valuable player.
