Knicks David Lee?

Do you think we could get him into the Raptor's lineup? He would be a great acquisition in my opinion and would give us another guy to add scoring in the lineup. He adds size and he can backup both Chris and Andrea as he is said to play both the 4 and 5 positions.

Maybe before the Hedo deal it was a possibility, but its not financially feasible now considering he's looking to get a minimum of $10 million per season. Love him, but its not going to happen in Toronto right now.

he wants around 12million/year. I wouldnt pay 12mill/year for a bench player. Plus we also have almost no money left.

we have no money to sign new free agents. it would have to be a trade, and the salaries have to match, so we would have to send the knicks or whoever signs him approximately $10 million in contracts, assuming that's what he eventually signs for.

basically not a chance.

I'm not 100 percent on the NBA salary cap... but aren't the Raps allowed to go over the cap and go into the luxury tax position should they decide to acquire a player like Lee?

I thought teams like the Lakers are way over the cap.

you can go over the cap if your existing contracts get bigger over time or through certain exceptions. you cannot sign new free agents if you are already over the cap.

I don't see how They have no expiring contracts to offer and/or they're not going to give up a core piece to get him.

You would have to use Bird rights on players to achieve that...and we don't have Lee's bird rights. We do have Delfino's which is what will allow us to sign him for whatever we want.

Even if you could get him..do you want to pay a player over $10 mill to come off the bench?
If you wanted to go into lux tax territory..there would are better options still available

People complain Bosh is soft? Lee is just as soft. Lee would be better off signing a 1-year deal with the Knicks and go to FA next year.

That's a loaded question. On this team, not being a championship contender or having a core group that is aging i'd say no. But for a team like the spurs, mavericks or celtics that aren't exactly spring chickens I would do it sure. Do whatever it takes to win(see New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox).

Didn't we already talk about David Lee already?

The only way Lee plays for the Raps this season is if we trade Bosh for him and get Lee & another player back...

& right now that isn't going to happen because of the moves BC has made this summer.

Larry Bird exception
Perhaps the most well-known of the NBA's salary cap exceptions, it is so named because the Boston Celtics were the first team permitted to exceed the salary cap to re-sign one of their own players (in that case, Larry Bird). Free agents who qualify for this exception are called "qualifying veteran free agents" or "Bird Free Agents" in the CBA, and this exception falls under the auspices of the Veteran Free Agent exception. In essence, the Larry Bird exception allows teams to exceed the salary cap to re-sign their own free agents, at an amount up to the maximum salary. To qualify as a Bird free agent, a player must have played three seasons without being waived or changing teams as a free agent. This means a player can obtain "Bird rights" by playing under three one-year contracts, a single contract of at least three years, or any combination thereof. It also means that when a player is traded, his Bird rights are traded with him, and his new team can use the Bird exception to re-sign him. Bird-exception contracts can be up to six years in length.
