Arrow David Aldridge: Bargnani more like Radmanovic than Dirk

Quote:
15. Bryan Colangelo has long believed that Andrea Bargnani is a future star in the league. How does the rest of the NBA view Andrea; is he the "next Dirk" in their eyes or simply a more offensively talented and mobile version of Radmanovic? (Raptors HQ)

DA: I would say he's not Dirk, and I don't think anybody is because I just don't think anybody shoots it the way Dirk shoots it. His shot is consistently perfected. I would say less than Dirk but more than Radmanovic. Radmanovic has never been a defensive player or a rebounder. And Bargnani has struggled at the defensive end, but I think he is better now than he was before and he does ... on the glass. I don't know that he's ever going to be a star. I think he could be a good player. My guess is that on a good team he could be a very good player because his skill set would be very advantageous for a good team, a big that can shoot the ball like he can would be very difficult to guard if you had to guard other really good players on a team as well.

I respect Aldridge, but to me, it sounds like a guy who stuck on the old idea of Bargnani from two seasons ago and has watched him progress this season. If he was playing in New York, people would be freaking out watching him and saying he's the next greatest player ever etc.

Radmanovic is freaking terrible.

And these player comparisons kill me. How about you just say he's Andrea Bargnani.

idiot.
how do you get a comparison between a player who's avg'd 8/4, shooting 40% over his career - to a guy who's putting up 18/6 this seasn and has been steadily getting better and better every year he's played in the league... and he's still 25 years old?
idiot.

you got to love quotes like that one. Just because he isn't the focal point of the offense shouldn't fool anyone in thinking that Bargnani is still just about potential. On a fairly consistent basis, Andrea is a key contributor on a winning team. Yeah he could be a good player... How about he already is!

yet, he then goes on how teams can benefit from a guy with his skill set. yeah, no shit! A sharp shooting big who can now hold his own against other traditional centres. those don't grow on trees.

Is it so much to ask for these guys to watch games, instead of highlights, and then make comparisons? Guess it is, because it hasn't happened yet.

I don't even know how you can compare this guy to anyone. If he's more mobile, a better defender, and more talented as a whole how is he anything like Radmanovic? What a maroon.

In all fairness, he was asked the question by Raptors HQ.

They are the ones that brought up Radmanovic's name.

True Acie, didn't see that.

I guess it's Aldridge's last sentence that kinda gets me.

I dont' like the Radmanovic comparison at all. I think until Barnani's development starts to level off it'll be tough to compare him to anyone. Give him a couple more years and I think we'll know.

It's true, has there really ever been anyone like Andrea? A seven footer with guard skills, a quick first step, and a guard's jump shot?

If anything he's a less athletic, less-skilled version of Kevin Durant.

That's too much of a compliment. Kevin Durant will be a top 5 player in the NBA for many years. I would compare Andrea to Lamar Odom. Both very good big man with consistency issues.
