Raps snap Motown jinx

The Raptors decided 'tis the season to put an end to their folly.

Led by Hedo Turkoglu, who recorded his first double-double of the season, the Raptors defeated the Detroit Pistons 94-64 last night, snapping an 11-game losing streak at the Palace of Auburn Hills, Toronto's longest losing streak in any NBA building.

"It was brought up just before the game and Chris (Bosh) said it's (ending) tonight," head coach Jay Triano said, when asked about the streak. "With about 20 seconds to go, we looked down the bench and said: 'We did it, and it feels good.' "

The last time Toronto won in Detroit was April 2, 2003. Not only was it their first win at the Palace in seven seasons, it was also the first victory in Detroit for long-time Raptors Bosh and Andrea Bargnani, who led all Toronto scorers with 21 points.

Hedo passes the buck

Turkoglu, who slowly is starting to play like the big-time player he was last season in Orlando, recorded a team-high 11 assists last night against the Detroit Pistons, along with 11 points.

His 11 assists were one more than the entire Detroit team recorded.

"Like I said before, if I have the ball in my hands, I can be more creative, and people can see what I can do," Turkoglu said after Toronto's 94-64 triumph.

Raptors pick Pistons apart

They got the Pistons down by outworking them early and never let up, holding Detroit to fewer points than any Raptors opponent had scored in a game this season, allowing them to shoot 27.9 per cent from the field (another season best) while putting up another impressive offensive performance.

"That was one thing we really talked about: They played last night and we had two days rest coming into this game, so there really was no excuse not to come out and have good energy coming into this game," said Bosh, who had 21 points and nine rebounds and ceded offensive responsibilities to Andrea Bargnani (21 points) and Hedo Turkoglu, who had 11 points and 11 assists for his first double-double as a Raptor.

Bargnani leads rout of Pistons

“This was good — I still think we could have rebounded better, but we had very active hands,” Toronto coach Jay Triano said. “I think we counted 27 deflections and we had energy. We defended and we shared the basketball. We're a pretty tough team when we share the ball.”

Raptors suffocate undermanned Pistons squad

Pistons coach John Kuester was hoping his team could get untracked offensively against one of the NBA's worst defenses Wednesday night.

Instead, things got even worse.

Detroit shot 28 percent from the floor in a 94-64 loss to Toronto, matching its lowest point total since the shot clock was implemented for the 1954-55 season. The Raptors entered ranked 29th out of 30 NBA teams in points allowed.

"That was a terrible, embarrassing loss," Kuester said. "I'm taking the blame on myself, because we didn't look prepared, and that's my job."

Pistons' offense ties franchise low in sixth straight loss

"No excuses, guys, that was embarrassing," coach John Kuester said. "I put all the blame on myself. That was a terrible, tough loss. An embarrassing loss. That goes on my shoulder. I didn't give us a chance to win tonight."
Kuester felt there was no energy in the second half from his team.
"We didn't come out with any life and that falls on the shoulder of the coach," Kuester said.
The Pistons shot a dismal 27.9 percent (24-of-86), also a season-low. Their previous worst was 37 percent against the Thunder.
The Raptors and Pistons play again Sunday in Toronto.
Who knows? By then maybe, maybe, one of the Pistons' injured will return.
They certainly need someone.
