Pistons roll over Raptors

Quote:
The Detroit Pistons weren’t about to get embarrassed again.

After blowing a 25-point lead last time they met the Raptors, Detroit cruised after building an 18-point first-half bulge on Wednesday night at the Air Canada Centre for a 115-93 win.

Rip Hamilton led the way with a season-best 35 points for the 10-19 Pistons. Leandro Barbosa had 21 and Linas Kleiza added 19 for the 10-19 Raptors.

The Raptors have now dropped eight of their past 10 games.

Just like at the earlier meeting at the Palace of Auburn Hills, turnovers were the reason the Raptors fell down big.

After turning it over 14 times in the first half in Detroit (to one Detroit turnover), the Raptors managed to do it again, leading to 21 Pistons points as the team built a 62-44 lead through two. The Pistons outscored Toronto 38-19 in the second quarter.

The final damage was a season-worst 24 turnovers for the Raptors and just eight for Detroit.

Raptors head coach Jay Triano implied that selfishness helped contribute to many of the mistakes on offence.

Former Raptors light up the new crew

Quote:
The spirits of Raptors past haunted the Air Canada Centre on Wednesday.

Ex-Raptors Charlie Villanueva and Tracy McGrady did a number on their former team to help lead the Detroit Pistons to a 115-93 win.

The pair combined for 35 points.

But it was McGrady, in particular, who really came to the fore, playing with a swagger despite the constant rain of boos from the stands.

In 24 minutes, McGrady scored 17 points and picked up seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals.

He also threw another former Raptor under the bus when it was suggested that most of the fans who boo him at the ACC really don’t know why they’re booing. He played the Raptors for three seasons from 1997-2000 before being sent to the Orlando Magic in a sign-and-trade deal.

“They don’t. I’m telling you, they really don’t,” he said. “It’s not like I was like Chris Bosh in selling out the city — like the city was horrible or something ... making crazy comments about the city.

“(In 2000), it was Toronto or going back home to Orlando. That’s pretty much it. I love the city. Everytime I come back, I really enjoy my time here.”

McGrady said the booing spurs him on.

“Keep booing,” he said. “I love it.”

He was instrumental in the Pistons taking a stranglehold on the game.

The Raptors led 30-28 early in the second quarter before McGrady went on a tear, scoring 15 points in the quarter as the Pistons jumped to a 62-44 lead at the half.

Villanueva, who sat out the fourth quarter, scored 18 points with four rebounds.

Well, that was a dud, wasn’t it?

I’m tying to think if there was a “wow” moment and I can’t come up with one.

You?

-

THREE POINTERS

Just worn down

Not sure if it was the cumulative effect of a lot of games, the nagging injuries or extended minutes but you could see some of the HOTH just wear down as that one progressed.

Jose, especially, struggled – the eight turnovers is his career worst game – and I think it’s directly attributable to the absence of Jerryd Bayless to give him some rest and the sore foot.

Jay had to use both Calderon and Barbosa on the court at the same time for far too long than he would have wanted and you could see play deteriorate as the game went on.

But since Jose was coming off two games where he had 20 and 12 and 14 and 15, I’m giving him a pass for a clunker.

-

Stopper? A so-so night

Julian Wright continues to do a pretty good job in his limited role as the defensive specialist on the wing and you all saw Jay go to him as soon as Tracy McGrady got going in the first half.

Didn’t work great – Tracy had 17 and was a huge factor – but it’s a role Wright should get more often, I think.

He’s got a way of being around the ball and making things happen when he’s on the court and I think they need to sacrifice some offence every now and then to let him go.

-

Someone coming?

Seeing the lineup decimated like it is, I’m wondering if Bryan might not be wise to go out and fill that 15th spot on the roster with someone.

Not necessarily a guy who’s going to come in and play regular minutes right away but someone who can at least help them have enough live bodies to practice and someone who can be available when games get out of hand to allow guys who need minutes off to get them.

I think I’d find someone and have him meet them on the trip that’s coming up.

No comeback this time: Pistons trounce Raptors 115-93

Quote:
Off they go into the holiday break licking the wounds from one of the worst beatings of the season, a broken-down and bedraggled group of Raptors who probably need time off more than anything.

They were hammered 115-93 by the Detroit Pistons at the Air Canada Centre on Wednesday night, a game in which they turned the ball over far too often, lost players on defence far too often and played as if they had already started their four-day holiday break.

Richard Hamilton came off the bench to blitz Toronto for 35 points and former Raptor Tracy McGrady seemed rejuvenated by the booing he got and scored 17. Leandro Barbosa led Toronto with 21 points.

Raptors routed by Pistons

Quote:
The last time the Toronto Raptors faced the Detroit Pistons, they clawed out of a monstrous 25-point pit, which they had dug for themselves by halftime.

So the 18-point hole Toronto faced Wednesday seemed rather shallow by comparison.

But unlike the miracle comeback of Dec. 11 (the largest in franchise history), there were no second-half shooting sprees or heroics by 22-year-old point guard Jerryd Bayless.
Instead, the Pistons ravaged a fumbling, injury-plagued Toronto squad during their 115-93 victory at the Air Canada Centre, increasing their record to 10-19.

“Turnovers definitely were frustrating us,” said shooting guard DeMar DeRozan. “It seemed like, after one turnover came another one, came another one, came another one.”

Toronto (10-19) now heads into a three-day Christmas break.

Calderon flatters to deceive once again

Quote:
It is understandable that so many people in Toronto want Jose Calderon to do well because on the surface he seems like a prince of a guy and it is at times painful to watch how much he wants to exercise leadership.

But in the new NBA world, it seems too often to be a matter of the spirit willing and the flesh failing to deliver. Just when his supporters in this city pointed to consecutive double-doubles and a return to the ranks of the NBA leaders in assists-to-turnover ratio as a sign he'd re-established himself, Calderon comes up with a performance like Wednesday's – a career-high eight turnovers in a 115-93 loss to the Detroit Pistons.

Calderon's game went south long before Amir Johnson pulled up lame late in the first half, his pregame treatments for back spasms not effective. Or before Andrea Bargnani strained his left calf muscle midway through the third quarter, then left for good in the fourth. There would be no franchise-record 25-point comeback on this night as there was the last time these teams played, because the Raptors had only eight and a half men (give or take a Joey Dorsey) and even against a club like the Pistons – beset by the type of internal strife that naturally results when a player such as Richard Hamilton gets accused sotto voce of pulling the chute on his team – it was not enough.

Couldn't tell ya. That's why I don't have any tattoos yet. I wouldn't want to do anything completely idiotic and be stuck with 'em!

kind of a tough thing to suggest because what i might find attractive could be the opposite of what you think...and that's what really matters (what YOU think is attractive and sexy)
the places i do like tattoos on women is their ankles and shoulder blades...something simple, small, subtle and feminine...and never colored (i much prefer the black/grey style...colored is just too "loud" for me)

are there any particular symbols that have special significance to you personally ?...if there are then that's a good place to start

See, if I could actually work up the nerve to do it, I would love to have something small and significant tattooed on my ankle in Elvish ... I don't think I would ever have enough nerve to do it though.

I mean, the SSG is not bad looking at all ... I just think that the Sun should hire 'Cuda and I as their photographers and fire the ones that they already have ... these people don't appear to know the first thing about photography.
