“I don’t care what level, whether it is the CIS or whatever it is, you need that leadership at your point guard,” Casey said. “It’s the most important position. You can never get too much of that.”

Crafty Casey eh, talking a little Canadian University ball. Gotta love it.

every time casey speaks, i'm happy with his choice of words. this is all spot-on - some serious problem areas with jose and some significant talent as well. it's a mixed bag:

Quote:
“Defensively, he’s been up and down, more up than down, much better than he was last year,” Raptors coach Dwane Casey said of his starting point guard before his team’s 103-93 win over the Detroit Pistons at the Air Canada Centre on Wednesday night. “Last year was just a parade of paint points, starting with him and ending with the big guy. It was a two-man job. This year he’s done a much better job with that.”

Casey hedges his words when talking about Calderon’s defence, and with good reason. He still has trouble with the league’s elite point guards — Jeremy Lin and Tony Parker carved him up on consecutive nights last week. It is hard to stop the best players in the game, but Calderon remains predictably susceptible.
Quote:
So there is a compelling case that Calderon will be steering the ship next year once Valanciunas and another draft pick have arrived. It might not be what Raptors fans want, but it also might not be such a bad thing. If you are going to have some veterans, one of them might as well be playing point guard. And if Calderon is playing at this level while staying healthy, he is a palatable short-term answer.

Not as bad as Reggie Evans rocking baggy jeans and a blazer on the sidelines a few years ago. Although I guess it should matter more for a coach.
