Chris Bosh to miss weekend

“We were talking about that the night before the break,” Jack said following practice Thursday. “How it was the first time heading into an all-star break that he had not missed a game.
I guess he may have spoken too soon. We should have probably kept it to ourselves but I’m sure he’ll do the necessary things to get himself back and ready to play as soon as possible.”
Bosh spent the better portion of his off-season building up his body to better withstand the rigours of an NBA season and avoid the very scenario that will play out over the next few days.
While the rest of the Raptors were practising Thursday, Bosh was undergoing an MRI test on the ankle to determine the extent of the damage.
The initial reports were a mild sprain of the left ankle.
Regardless of the final diagnosis, for the first time this season, the Raptors will take the floor without their franchise player and leading scorer when they take on the New jersey Nets Friday night at IZOD Center.
And with the Washington Wizards visiting Toronto the very next night, there’s a very likely possibility that Bosh will miss that game as well. Fortunately for the Raptors, although no one affiliated with the team would dare make this statement, both games come against the dregs of the Eastern Conference. And the fact that after the Washington game the Raptors don’t play again until Wednesday when Portland comes calling may just limit the exposure of a Bosh-less Raptors team to just those two games.

Raptors Tipoff

Hedo Turkoglu vs. Yi Jianlian
Battle of two highly touted internationals. When these teams met at the ACC on Feb. 3, Jianlian had a team-high-tying 15 points and seven rebounds in a 108-99 loss. Turkoglu was not in the lineup sitting out the second game after suffering a slight break in the orbital bone beneath his right eye. With no Chris Bosh, Turkoglu is going to have to rebound from his lacklustre return to the lineup on Wednesday and provide some offence. Turkoglu appeared to be struggling with the protective mask he had to wear against the Grizzlies. Some family concerns back home in Turkey still are weighing on his mind he admitted after the game.
The Nets are 1-1 since the all-star break but with any luck at all could have been a perfect 2-0. The Nets went into Charlotte on Tuesday and for the second time this year defeated Charlotte, this time by a score of 103-94. On Wednesday, they hosted Miami and had a six-point lead with 5:46 to go before seeing the Heat finish the game on a 13-4 run leaving the Nets to digest an 87-84 loss. The Nets are picking up their defensive game having held Charlotte to 42% shooting and then Miami to just 39.2% although the latter was a bit tainted as Dwyane Wade did not play beyond the first quarter after straining a calf muscle. The Nets' five wins are easily the fewest in the league this season.
Former Raptor Kris Humphries is making a solid impression with the Nets since joining the team in early January in a trade from Dallas. he was dealt along with Shawne Williams to the Nets for Eduardo Najera. In 17 games since joining the Nets, Humphries is averaing 10.7 points and 7.3 rebounds a game .... In 25 career games against the Nets, Bosh has averaged 18 points and 7.2 rebounds a game

Bosh not the only injured Raptor

Hedo Turkoglu wasn’t the only Raptor playing with something other than basketball on his mind on Wednesday.
A subdued Jarrett Jack revealed following practice Thursday that he too is dealing with some off-court issues.
Like Turkoglu, who flew back to Turkey over the all-star break to attend to a family situation but preferred to keep his off-court business private, Jack too remained vague about the nature of his issue.
“It’s not so much basketball,” Jack said. “It’s a couple of personal things or whatever.”
Jack’s statistical line against the Memphis Grizzlies — 18 minutes, 1-for-3 shooting, three points, two assists — was nowhere near what he has produced for much of the season but he believed that had as much to do with the nature of Wednesday night’s game as his own play or his off-court situation.

Injury bug bites Bosh as big weekend looms

Coach Jay Triano wouldn't say publicly who would start in Bosh's place against the Nets, but the odds-on favourite is veteran Rasho Nesterovic.
And having someone like Nesterovic in reserve is exactly why Raptors general manager and president Bryan Colangelo resisted the urge to make any kind of move at the trade deadline.
Despite a flurry of late-day rumours that he would move some players from the end of his bench to the end of the Los Angeles Lakers bench, a team source said "nothing even close" came out of Colangelo's trade chatter. And that suits Triano just fine.
"I like it," he said of his 29-24 team. "Bryan's been working trying to make deals and come up with things to make us better and I think, bottom line, we've all agreed in the locker room that this is who we like."
One player who may benefit from Bosh's absence – and it's unknown if the all-star will miss Saturday's game at home against the Washington Wizards – is Reggie Evans, who should see his minutes extended, if only a little.
Evans still isn't in tip-top game shape but his physical style and willingness to rebound should earn him some more time against the Nets with Bosh out.
"Again, it's all going to be based on judging his wind and what he can give us out there," said Triano. "I thought he was pretty good again (Wednesday) night for the limited minutes; I just had a tough time finding a way to get him back in the game.
"Amir (Johnson) was outstanding and that's how it's going to be. I'm sure there'll be times when Reggie's really good and it's tough to get Amir in the game," Triano added

Bosh to miss road game in New Jersey

The Toronto Raptors will be minus all-star forward Chris Bosh when they travel New jersey to face the Nets on Friday.
Bosh left Thursday's practice early to go see a doctor regarding his sore left ankle. Bosh suffered the injury in Toronto's 109-102 overtime loss to Memphis on Wednesday night.
Bosh is listed as day-to-day. The Raptors aren't expected to make any significant roster changes prior to the league's trade deadline of 3 p.m. ET.
The timing of Bosh's injury would also seem opportune for Toronto (29-24) as the Nets (5-49) have the NBA's worst record.

Raptors sticking with what they have

"Bottom line, we've all agreed in the locker room that this is who we like," Raptors coach Jay Triano said. "We've figured out how to play together a little better. We have a lot of work to do. But we're pretty happy with where we are."
"I think we have all the help we need in the locker room right now," guard Jarrett Jack added.
Considering what went down at the deadline across the league, that is a fine approach to take for the present time. Of the four teams ahead of them in the Eastern Conference standings, only Cleveland made a major move, acquiring Antawn Jamison, the type of versatile forward who seems perfect to play alongside LeBron James.
"It's tough to find all those guys minutes," Triano said of the deal and the wealth of talent in Cleveland, which would seem to be more of a blind prayer for failure rather than an actual prediction of failure.

NJ Nets make no moves at NBA trade deadline

“With regards to the trading deadline, there was minimal activity on our part,” Nets president Rod Thorn said in a statement. “There were several calls made as well as received, but there was never any discussed transaction that came close to fruition.”
So the Nets will bide their time until the summer, when all the salary cap room they’ve created will allow them to go big-game hunting to possibly land one of the superstar free agents available, a group that is led by LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
There still could be some roster movement on the Nets and around the league, though. Now that everyone’s rosters are set, teams may be buying out players and signing players bought out by other teams to further fine-tune their rosters. For playoff teams, players need to be with the club by March 1 to be eligible for postseason play.
The Nets return to action Friday night with a home game at Izod Center against the Toronto Raptors (who will be missing Bosh, due to an ankle injury).

HELLO!! ...... On another note, I never thought these off-court issues could affect a player so much. If Hedo needs some time off to address personal matters than by all means the Raptors should grant him leave. Maybe that could help his game.
