Pistons take Raptors to school

Quote:
It was men against boys early and that was the difference, as a better second-half effort could not prevent the Raptors from hitting the 50-loss mark.
Despite a poor 24-44 record, the Pistons — 107-93 winners at the Palace of Auburn Hills on Wednesday night — have years of championship-level experience to draw on and looked far more advanced than the young Raptors in the first quarter — not too mention more energetic.
“No energy, no focus,” summed up Raptors rookie Ed Davis, wise beyond his years.
The Pistons blocked or changed a host of Raptors shots, Andrea Bargnani’s patented up-fake didn’t work against Detroit’s veterans the way it has against a bevy of less-seasoned players this season and Detroit moved the ball too well for Toronto to do anything about it.
Rip Hamilton led the Pistons with 24 points, Tayshaun Prince added 22 and Rodney Stuckey compiled 13 of Detroit’s 33 assists.
The Raptors were led by 20 points from Bargnani and 16 from DeMar DeRozan.
Raptors head coach Jay Triano said before the game he was concerned about Detroit’s smarts and they quickly showed why.
Detroit got out to a 33-20 lead, 38-24 after a quarter, shot 61%, dished out 11 assists to Toronto’s six and drew five fouls to Toronto’s one, leading to a 7-0 deficit for the Raptors in free-throw attempts in the quarter.
“It’s a big contrast in that veteran guys who have been around for a long time, who have been stars in the league, won championships, against guys like DeMar (DeRozan) and James (Johnson) that have a year of NBA experience,” Triano said.

Raptors’ inexperience shows in 107-93 loss to Pistons

Quote:
Triano knows that developing a franchise means giving young players the chance to grow and acquire the savvy that some vets possess, even if is a rather fine balancing act.
Perhaps no Raptor was more struck by the differences in experience, size and smarts than rookie Ed Davis, who struggled all night.
While the 6-10 Davis has shown promise in the last few weeks, he was invisible for most of Wednesday night — particularly in the first half, when he went scoreless with only two rebounds in 10 minutes.
“He wasn’t alone,” Triano said of Davis. “As good as Reggie (Evans) has been — and Reggie gave us a good effort tonight — there were three defensive rebounds when the game was close that a bigger, taller guy kept alive over top of him, and those are the kind of rebounds he usually gets.”
But Triano knew going in that young players such as Davis and DeMar DeRozan were going to have difficult nights.
“I think every game that those two play against veteran players . . . is a great challenge for them,” he said, presciently. “If you look at the size of some of the guys Ed is going to have to play against, we know he has to get stronger, he knows he has to get stronger.
“These are good games for him to get a chance to battle and go head-to-head against guys he has to get better than as he progresses through his career.”
The Pistons shot an astonishing 61 per cent in the first half — Prince had 14 of his points, while Hamilton had 11 — and took a 63-52 lead into the break.

Pistons end skid, hammer Raptors

“I've been waiting for that group to present itself all season, but it hasn't worked out until now,” Kuester said. “They did a great job of setting the tone — that was as good a first quarter as we've played offensively all season.”
“I've been waiting for that group to present itself all season, but it hasn't worked out until now,” Kuester said. “They did a great job of setting the tone — that was as good a first quarter as we've played offensively all season.”
With Hamilton benched for nearly a month and Wallace missing eight games after the death of his brother, the group hadn't been available since early January.
“When we have Ben Wallace out there with us, we know we can do good things,” Prince said. “He's going to play defence, grab rebounds and block shots, and that means the rest of us can get out and run.”
Rodney Stuckey, Detroit's leading scorer, had a strange game. Usually a shoot-first point guard, he finished with a career-high 14 assists for the Pistons (24-44) while taking just one shot.
“My guys were open and making shots,” Stuckey said. “A lot of people don't know it, but I'm a good passer. I probably passed up some shots I could have taken, but my guys were open.”
Kuester, who has given McGrady the starting point-guard job, enjoyed Stuckey's new style.
“I think he was attacking as much as he normally does, but he was attacking for other players instead of for himself,” Kuester said. “I loved it.”

Raptors fall behind early and stay there

Quote:
Tracy McGrady admits that during his NBA career he has not always practised as hard as he could.
"I just wasn't a great practice player," McGrady said in an interview with the website HoopsHype.com. "I just wasn't.
"I just think I could cruise through practice and still be effective. Some guys have to really go [all] out to really have an impact on practice. My ability was just, I had God-given talent to where I could just cruise through practice and still be an effective practice player . I was inconsistent."
It was the Toronto Raptors who appeared to be in practice mode at the start of Wednesday night's game against McGrady and the Detroit Pistons.
The Raptors fell behind early and never recovered as Detroit won 107-93 at the Palace of Auburn Hills. The loss extends Toronto's franchiserecord road losing streak to 14 games. The Raptors last victory away from the Air Canada Centre was Jan. 5 at Cleveland.
Andrea Bargnani led Toronto with 20 points. Reggie Evans, playing his fourth game since returning from a foot injury, picked up a team high eight rebounds.

I think the RFG should donate some boob to the SSG.

I think that would be beneficial for everyone.
