Bosh hoping for fairy-tale return to T.O.

Quote:
The human side of Bosh wants to be liked, but he knows better.
的知 on another team,鋳 he said. 的 would like it (to be liked) because that痴 like a fairy tale ending or beginning, but that might not be the case.
的値l be ready for anything.
Chris Bosh has been waiting for this night since the NBA schedule was released months ago.
As the night draws closer, the anxiety grows and the unknown will soon be known.
This isn稚 LeBron James returning to Cleveland and nor should it be anywhere near the hysteria that accompanied the initial visits by Stoudamire, McGrady and Carter.
So what if an attention seeker such as Bosh uses a social medium as a toy to tease and prod fans.
Who cares if a multi-millionaire athlete complains about cable restrictions in a foreign land.
The bottom line with Chris Bosh is that he did his best and to some extent the club did its best to build a winner with Bosh as its face.
It didn稚 work out and it was time to move on.
鉄even seasons of ups and downs, relationships and so much fun,鋳 Bosh said.
典oronto is like the mark of the beginning of my manhood.

Bosh: "I never checked out on the Raptors"

Quote:
Raptors GM Bryan Colangelo maintains something went askew after last season痴 all-star break, which was held in Bosh痴 native Dallas.
At the time, the Raptors were contending for homecourt in the post-season, but it would quickly vanish.
Bosh sprained an ankle in a heartbreaking home defeat to Memphis, setting the stage for a downward spiral that led to the Raptors missing the playoffs for the second year in a row.
的t was disappointing to me because you know what you did,鋳 Bosh said of Colangelo痴 claim.
添ou know it痴 a hard job to play every night, especially with the things I was dealing with at the time. It was very tough. I competed every night when I was out on the court when I was healthy.
摘ven when I wasn稚 100%, I gave it my all. With me knowing that, I don稚 have to worry about what people have to say.
的致e never, ever checked out of anything.

Bosh didn't have leadership skills

Quote:
Bosh痴 departure, while unquestionably hurtful in the short term, is actually a good thing for this organization.
Before you chalk this up as another one of those bash Bosh columns you致e been reading about since he left, understand this is not an attack on CB4 the basketball player.
He is a talented, hard-working player, arguably one of the top two to ever wear the Raptors uniform. He痴 just not a good, or even a decent fit as the player this franchise could have been built around.
And make no mistake, had the Raptors had the opportunity to shower that $120-million max deal on Bosh and he accepted, they would have had no choice but to go forward with Bosh the square peg in that round hole.
Bosh just isn稚 the kind of alpha dog an NBA franchise with aspirations of contending for division, conference, and league championships requires.
Bosh, in fact, is much more suited to the role he currently holds with the Heat.
He痴 much more comfortable in the second, or as is the case in Miami, third option than he is pack leader.
For one thing, Bosh does not possess the leadership qualities required by a lead player in an NBA clubhouse.
Bosh is a fine leader by example but does not have it in his DNA to be the vocal No. 1 like a LeBron James, a Dwyane Wade or a Chris Paul has.
Team sources said that time and again the organization was on Bosh to be more of a leader. To be the guy who brought his teammates together away from the court as well as on it and forged the kind of tight unit that helps a team weather the bad times and prosper in the good.
But Bosh, while he tried on occasion, never embraced the role. It just wasn稚 and isn稚 in his nature to lead.
This was then head coach Sam Mitchell back in January of 2008 commenting on Bosh:
滴e痴 the face of our franchise and he is our best player, Mitchell said. 釘ut just being the best player is not enough. You pay a guy because of how he plays, but what they forget to tell you is in that fine print are all those other things that you are responsible for. Not only are you responsible for your play but to a certain degree you are responsible for how your teammates play.
Bosh had no trouble raising his own game, but he wanted no part of trying to raise anyone else痴.

Bosh prepared for return to Toronto

Quote:
In Toronto, Bosh was the main guy, where the offence always ran through his hands.
With the Heat, Bosh is the third option behind Dwyane Wade and LeBron James.
When Wade is lighting it up, as he did Tuesday night in scoring 22 first-quarter points against the Pacers, James serves as the facilitator, while Bosh merely gets out of Flash痴 way.
On Bosh痴 first touch, he was forced to heave a late shot-clock attempt when James picked up his dribble near the sideline.
There would later come one of Bosh痴 patented step-back jumpers and an open-court drive that featured a behind-the-back dribble he would finish with an and-one.
For Bosh, posting 20/10 games became the norm in Toronto, especially in his final two seasons.
In Miami, Bosh has produced one 30-point game and attempted more than 20 shots only twice.
Tuesday night, the Heat should have featured Bosh more, especially when the home side erased a 24-point lead.
Whether it痴 Toronto or Indianapolis, the atmosphere that awaits the Heat痴 arrival is electric.
No team is a better road draw in the NBA than Miami and no team is more disliked than the Heat.
展e致e experienced some tough times from the crowd, Bosh said. 的t痴 pretty much at every arena that we play. Guys (opponents) are extra motivated, fans are extra motivated, they either talk crap or cheer a little louder.
And in a way, the reception Miami receives on the road has helped prepare Bosh for Wednesday night.
的知 as ready as I値l ever be,鋳 he added. 釘ring it on.

Evans: Bosh a different dude

Quote:
Reggie Evans doesn稚 have a mean bone in his body off the court.
Nor does the Raptors injured big man possess a built-in filter that might keep him from being the most interesting interview in the Raptors locker room.
So when the topic of a personality drain was broached yesterday as it related to Chris Bosh痴 departure, Evans was his normal direct self.
哲o disrespect to Chris but Chris don稚 talk. He don稚 talk. He痴 like ... he don稚 talk.
When it was pointed out that Bosh talked after every game with the media, Evans shook his head and muttered as much to himself, 的 didn稚 even know he was in the locker room.
的知 not knocking CB at all, Evans reiterated, 澱ut Chris is different. He痴 a different dude.
Evans said the personality within the locker room , as far as he is concerned, at an all time high this year.
展e just got a lot of young guys who have to learn the game, he said. 典hat痴 the difference. Everybody thinks their cute on this team, but that痴 all part of everyone having fun with each other.
摘ven though we are going through a lot of ups and downs from a basketball standpoint, we are still having fun with each other, Evans said. 展e are still enjoying each other痴 company - personality-wise we are on a whole other level this year compared to last year.

On to boo or not to boo Bosh + the future of Bryan Colangelo

Quote:
Chris Bosh made some mistakes on the way out, but is he worth booing to the same degree Tracy McGrady and Vince Carter have been?
I don稚 think so.
Yes he said a bunch of incredibly stupid things and might have mis-led general manager Bryan Colangelo into thinking Toronto had a better shot than it actually did of bringing him back (though Colangelo has been around long enough to read the tea leaves and surely knew Bosh wasn稚 coming back), but Carter and McGrady痴 offences were far worse.
Carter quit on the franchise, might have given away a play (according to now-Raptor Reggie Evans who later took the accusation back), stopped playing hard and submarined his trade value after asking to be traded.
McGrady told Glen Grunwald there was pretty much a 50-50 shot he would re-sign in Toronto when his rookie deal was dealt, preventing the then GM from pulling the trigger on a number of enticing trade offers (a prime Jerry Stackhouseツ or Larry Hughes among others) and left town as soon as humanly possible.
Bosh played hard and gave his all for pretty much his entire tenure. Maybe he should have played with a mask after breaking his face and made more of an effort to get back in the lineup to get the Raptors into the playoffs last season, but everybody痴 pain tolerance is different. Only Bosh knows if he checked out down the stretch, thinking of greener pastures.
It isn稚 all on Bosh that things didn稚 work here. He re-signed with the team and though he enjoyed being miscast as a No. 1 option, or franchise player, he clearly wasn稚 and that isn稚 his fault.
It痴 up to management to build a strong team and take advantage of what it has. Bosh, while not that uber-stud, was the closest thing to an elite player Toronto had and the team couldn稚 properly build around him. While every good team had a steady swingman or two capable of breaking down defences, Bosh was never given that complementary and crucial teammate.
Bosh deserves to be both booed and cheered. In what order? I知 not entirely sure. Perhaps booed now while the wound for Raptors fans is fresh and cheered sometime down the line when he is recognized for the records he broke while here.
In any case, he isn稚 the villain that Carter and McGrady were. Their actions seemed malicious, Bosh痴 silly comments, though stupid and shockingly lacking in common sense never did.

Bosh's legacy worth praising, too

Quote:
Before last season ended, before he Tweeted and talked out both sides of his mouth and lost the social network war and some of his reputation, there was really only one time Bosh disappointed as a Raptor. It came in the one playoff series in which he could have made a difference. The Raptors played the New jersey Nets. It was a series they should have won. Only Bosh was in and out, up and down, not the star he was purported to be.
But other than how he left town, how he may have misled management, how he insulted people without knowing he was even insulting them, there should be no reason for total animosity. Go ahead and boo Vince Carter. I will boo him to my grave. I find it difficult to feel the same kind of animosity for Bosh.
Even though there will certainly be boos Wednesday night. There will be boos, mostly, because that痴 what we do. There are few Toronto basketball traditions, as someone on Twitter pointed out Tuesday, but booing former Raptors (even Kenny Anderson, who never reported in a trade) is one of them.
Chris Bosh played 520 games in a Toronto uniform, most of them hard, most of them well, most of them with athletic skill and integrity. You can be mad about how he chose to leave but not about how much he accomplished here.

釘ring it on: Bosh

Quote:
添eah, I壇 like to (be liked) but at the end of the day, I知 on another team, he said. 的 would like to (be warmly welcomed), yeah, that痴 like a fairy tale ending or beginning or whatever, but that might not be the case.
Bosh is at peace with his decision. While he says he still feels an affinity for the city, the franchise, and friends he made, he has no regrets.
典here痴 no good way to separate sometimes or move on, but you just have to put the past behind you, Bosh said here Tuesday morning as the Heat prepared for a game with the Indiana Pacers. Miami won 110-103.
鄭t no time did I feel that I said anything degrading or bad or acted uncivilized or anything. I知 pretty happy with the way things went.
Fans may dispute that and Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo has already said that Bosh 田hecked out after last season痴 all-star break, feeding the feelings of betrayal that fans carry.
That comment is the one thing that seems to get a rise out of him.
的t was disappointing to me because you know what you did, you know it痴 a hard job to play every night, especially with the things that I was dealing with at the time. It was very tough, very tough, he said.
釘ut I came, I competed every night I was out on the court when I was healthy. Even when I wasn稚 100 per cent, I still went out there and gave it my all.
展ith me knowing that, I don稚 have to worry about what other people say. I know good and well what I did and I would never, ever check out of anything.

Raptors unfazed by prodigal son痴 return

Quote:
Compared to last season, Evans said, the Raptors are much closer. They all have each other痴 phone numbers, rib each other over Twitter, connect at clubs or over homemade meals prepared by their visiting mothers.
添ou know, we can go out no matter who you池e with. No matter if you池e from Spain, no matter if you from Italy. It don稚 matter, Evans said.
鉄onny always runs his mouth that痴 not new. But you know DeMar [DeRozan], he痴 opening up. Joey [Dorsey] talks. Ju-Ju [Julian Wright], he gonna never stop talking. Ed [Davis], even Solo [Solomon Alabi]. We got a great core of guys where everybody communicates.

Onus on fans to give Chris Bosh a hard time

Quote:
Frankly, I hope the fans unleash the hounds of hell on Bosh. That痴 their right. But the fans don稚 concern me: the Raptors concern me.
I guess what I want to see from the Raptors players is some respect for their fans, you know? That means cutting out any pregame clowning around with Bosh. That means not playing the awe-struck, goofy, little brother like the Cleveland Cavaliers did on James痴 return, when he went off for 38 points, including 24 in the third quarter alone, as the Heat rolled to a 118-90 win. The Cavaliers were 7-10 coming into the game, but that loss was the second of what would be a 10-game losing streak. After a 109-103 overtime win over the New York Knicks stopped that streak, the Cavaliers embarked on an NBA-record 26-game losing streak. Take note, Raptors.
James first disarmed an angry crowd at Quicken Loans Arena. Then, he talked trash to the Cavaliers bench, saying later it was in good fun.
The Raptors have already faced the Heat twice once with Bosh and once without Bosh. So the huggy-huggy stuff ought to be over with. Let there be no gushing on the night. Not much was expected of this Raptors team this season by too many people, and they致e delivered precisely that commodity. But at some point, it痴 to be hoped that Triano told his players that this particular game really matters, that it is in fact the only one that matters in this city this season.
This one is for the fans. This one is for you.

NEW WORLD ORDER

Quote:
OK, everybody, we all know the script. Chris Bosh returns to Toronto with his shiny new team, he is booed and mocked and jeered by a frothing mob -- which he deserves for how he left, not because he left -- the Raptors probably lose, and the monotonous drumbeat of a rebuilding season resumes, like rain on the roof of your car.
It is not Toronto's first such rodeo, so there is a protocol in place. The big consolation is probably that it won't be as bad as Vince Carter's various returns to Toronto, including the one where he scored 24 of his 42 points in the fourth quarter, including a 28-foot bomb that gave New jersey a one-point lead with a tenth of a second on the clock, which was left as frozen as the silent, gut-punched, sellout crowd.
But that consolation is only a small one, if you start thinking hard about what Bosh's departure really signified. He didn't leave for more money, though he got paid. He left because the franchise wore him down, and more, there was a superpower convention happening somewhere warm. As one NBA source put it, "He went to play with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade and live in Miami. That's a hell of a lot better than playing with Jermaine O'Neal, Hedo Turkoglu, T.J. Ford, Jason Kapono ...."

Bosh finally back in town

Quote:
Evans laughed at the notion that Bosh spent much of his time in Toronto talking to his teammates before or after the game. Bosh was close with former teammate Jarrett Jack -- Jack attended Bosh's daughter's birthday in Miami this year -- and also, to a lesser extent, with Jose Calderon, who was his teammate for five years.
But most of Bosh's lasting friendships created during his time in Toronto were with business associates, not teammates. Meanwhile, as the Raptors continue to pile up the losses, at least some of their young players' personalities are blooming in the process.
"Everybody thinks they're cute on the team, but that's a part of us having fun with each other," Evans said. "Even though we're going through a lot of ups and downs from a basketball standpoint, we're still having fun with each other.
"[In terms of ] personality, we're on a whole different level, comparing last year to this year."

Raptors Game Day

Quote:
HEAT
Who's hot? Chris Bosh usually struggles against Kevin Garnett and the Celtics, but he had 24 points and 10 rebounds Sunday.
Who's not? Mario Chalmers might not be long for the Heat's starting lineup. He played just 13 minutes in Boston.
RAPTORS
Who's hot? Ed Davis has set career highs in rebounding in each of his last two games. He had 14 on Sunday.
Who's not? Leandro Barbosa is shooting 36% from the floor in the four games since he returned from a hamstring injury.

Toronto vs. Miami

Quote:
TIME: 07:00 P.M. EST
VENUE: Air Canada Centre
It hasn't received the same hype as Miami's first visit to Cleveland, but fans in Toronto have been eagerly awaiting the Heat's first trip to Canada.
Former Raptor Chris Bosh will make his first appearance in Toronto on Wednesday night when Miami looks for its 10 win in 11 games.
Bosh, the Raptors' all-time leader in points (10,275), rebounds (4,776) and blocks (600) in seven seasons with Toronto (15-40), didn't go on national TV to announce his free-agency plans like LeBron James, but his decision to leave the Raptors and join the Heat (40-15) also left Toronto fans smarting.
A couple weeks after joining James and Dwyane Wade in Miami, the six-time All-Star forward insulted a city by saying "Toronto is different," and he didn't want to go there.
Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo also took a shot at his former player saying Bosh was "checked out" late last season and chose not to play some of Toronto's final games. He also said Bosh, James and Wade had all planned to play together years ago.
"The fans think he's a traitor," Toronto's Sonny Weems said. "It would mean a lot to them if we can get this win, and it would mean a lot to our team."
Bosh is prepared for the same kind of booing and heckling James received in his first game back in Cleveland, and has no regrets about how he left the Raptors.
"At no time did I feel I said anything degrading or bad or acted uncivilized," Bosh said before Tuesday's 110-103 win over Indiana. "I'm pretty happy with the way things went."

Miami Heat痴 Chris Bosh ready for chilly return to Toronto

Quote:
The Heat doesn稚 expect the same reception in Toronto as it experienced in Cleveland, but Chris Bosh痴 return to his old town should provide enough boos to make the end of the team痴 four-game trip interesting.
The Heat plays the Raptors on Wednesday, the second game of a back-to-back. The Raptors fourth-overall draft pick in 2003, Bosh is averaging 18.3 points and 8.1 rebounds this season.
的知 as ready as I値l ever be, Bosh said. 撤retty much it痴 been every arena that we致e been at [players] have been extra motivated, fans have been extra motivated to either talk crap or cheer a little louder but I知 as ready as I値l ever be, so bring it on.
Bosh has had Wednesday痴 game in mind since the beginning of the season. So, too, has Toronto. Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo has fueled anticipation of Bosh痴 return with comments suggesting that Bosh 田hecked out after the All-Star break last season.
的 don稚 regret anything because at the end of the day I致e never said anything bad about the city or the organization and I致e never felt bad about it, Bosh said. 鉄ometimes it痴 no good way to separate or move on but you have to put the past behind you. At no time did I feel like I said anything degrading or bad or act uncivilized or anything like that.
