Turkoglu's nose busted, too

Quote:
That nasal contusion turned out to be a little more than a bruise.

Raptors forward Hedo Turkoglu, who left Wednesday's loss against the Boston Celtics in the first quarter, is now listed as day-to-day with a small new non-displaced fracture of an old nasal fracture.

Those findings were the result of a CT scan conducted Wednesday night at Mount Sinai.

Turkoglu injured his nose when he collided with Tony Allen's head during a loose ball scramble.

He is listed as day-to-day.

The Raptors are already without the services of leading scorer and rebounder Chris Bosh. Bosh broke his nose and cheekbone when he took an inadvertent Antawn Jamison elbow in the face Tuesday night in Cleveland.

Bosh has surgery to repair nasal fracture

Quote:
The Raptors didn't waste any time addressing the Chris Bosh injuries.

Bosh underwent successful surgery Wednesday in Cleveland to repair a displaced nasal fracture. The procedure was performed by Dr. Frank Papay at The Cleveland Clinic. Bosh was expected to remain in Cleveland for a second night.

Bosh suffered a non-displaced maxilla fracture and a displaced nasal fracture to the right side of his face when the Cavaliers' Antawn Jamison hit him with an inadvertent elbow just over two minutes into Toronto's 113-101 loss to Cleveland on Monday night.

Raptors team doctors were to address the media Wednesday night before game time.

How long Bosh will be out with the injuries was not known.

The Raptors have a one-game lead on Chicago for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with five games remaining.

Feschuk: Raptors should focus on winning, not whining

Quote:
The Raptors’ woe-be-us act is wearing thinner than a non-displaced facial fracture.

You heard it from the mouth of point guard Jose Calderon on Wednesday night, Calderon complaining that the Toronto crowd “hurt” him when it booed the home team during a loss to the Boston Celtics. And you saw it attributed to Chris Bosh this week, even though Bosh is still not speaking to the media in the wake of breaking his face in Cleveland on Tuesday night.

“Because of where we play, we don’t get the attention of other teams,” Bosh told Marc J. Spears of Yahoo.com in a column that was presumably reported before Bosh was lost for the balance of the regular season with his facial injuries.

A couple of questions for Bosh: Is it crazy to suggest it’s not because of where you play that you and your teammates don’t get the same amount of attention as other teams? Couldn’t it be because of how you’ve played — i.e. without highlight-reel appeal and with a combined winning percentage of .458 in the five straight seasons in which you’ve been named an all-star? (The answers, by the way, are no and yes. Bosh has been a good ambassador for Toronto, but he should understand that geography is largely irrelevant in matters of celebrity. There was no bigger NBA star than Vince Carter when Carter was in full bloom a decade ago. And Carter had it all, the endorsements and the nightly ESPN-driven drooling, while based in this little hinterland that passes for something like the fourth largest city in the NBA).

Raptors' Turkoglu may wear mask to hasten return

Quote:
They don’t keep official stats but the Raptors have to lead the NBA in broken noses.

With Chris Bosh’s regular season over after he had surgery to fix his broken nose, Hedo Turkolgu now has a “small new non-displaced fracture on an old nasal fracture,” the team said in a release.

Turkoglu did travel with the Raptors to Atlanta, where they face the Hawks on Friday night in another game crucial to their playoff hopes.

A team spokesman said in an email that the Turkoglu’s status for the game will not be determined until Friday – he is listed as day-to-day—but that he wants to play and is willing to wear a mask to protect the broken nose. Turkoglu had resisted wearing a mask earlier this season.

Doug Smith's Raptors blog

Quote:
I think you know my feelings on the Cavs giving LeBron the night off in Chicago on Thursday: It’s a blow to the integrity of the game as well as a sign of disrespect.

It’s wrong, in my opinion, because it screws with a playoff race and there are other, non-essential games (like tonight against Indiana) that he could have bailed on.

Raptors left hanging without Bosh

Quote:
Derrick Rose scored 24 points, Kirk Hinrich had 23 and the Chicago Bulls survived some shaky free-throw shooting down the stretch to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 109-108 with LeBron James on the sideline on Thursday night.

Luol Deng had 22 points and 10 rebounds, Joakim Noah added 17 points and 15 boards, and the Bulls moved into a tie with eighth-place Toronto in the Eastern Conference. The Raptors hold the tiebreaker, but with Chris Bosh injured, Chicago's odds are looking good.

The Bulls prevailed even though Rose and Deng each missed two free throws in the final 15 seconds and Cleveland's Mo Williams scored a season-high 35 points on a night when James sat out to rest some bumps and bruises.

Turkoglu day-to-day with facial fracture

Quote:
The Toronto Raptors have paid the price for sticking their noses into the action as they battle for the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association – and now have two broken beaks to show for it.

The club said Thursday that Turkish-born forward Hedo Turkoglu’s status is “day-to-day” after suffering a small, new non-displaced fracture when his face collided with the head of Boston guard Tony Allen during the first quarter of Wednesday's 115-104 loss to the Boston Celtics at the Air Canada Centre.

A CT scan performed at Toronto’s Mount Sinai Hospital revealed the fracture, but the good news was that that scan showed “no significant displacement, and no skull or midface injuries,” the Raptor statement said. Turkoglu has already missed time this season with a fractured orbital bone under his right eye.

Bulls win to move in to tie with Raptors for playoff spot

Quote:
CHICAGO (AP) LeBron James watched from the sidelines, nursing some bumps and bruises, and Antawn Jamison might be joining him there.

For a team with championship aspirations, the Cleveland Cavaliers are looking a little vulnerable.

Derrick Rose scored 24 points, Kirk Hinrich had 23 and the Chicago Bulls gave their playoff hopes a big boost by surviving some shaky free-throw shooting down the stretch to beat the Cavaliers 109-108 with James on the sideline Thursday night.

"It's a big win," Hinrich said. "We definitely needed it. We let a lot of opportunities slip by and it just feels good to take advantage of it."

The Bulls moved into an eighth-place tie with Toronto in the Eastern Conference with one more meeting between the teams. Although the Raptors already own the tiebreaker, Chris Bosh is injured.

The SSG is sneaky hot....If you saw her fully dressed she wouldn't look like she has as good a body as she does.

Nicole is a fucking babe...I don't think that photo does her justice. Excellent choice regardless
