Raptors Daily Raptor Dish - 07.12.10

Calderon was sick, but he's better now

Quote:
Jose Calderon would not have got through Sunday’s game without gravol.

The Raptors point guard spent the better part of Sunday morning throwing up and wondering whether he was going to be able to take the court against the New York Knicks.

The gravol eventually settled his stomach but there were plenty of dizzy periods throughout the afternoon brought on by a stomach that wouldn’t hold anything down. Calderon didn’t eat anthing until late Sunday night.

“It’s probably one of the worst,” Calderon said of how bad he was feeling. “But I wanted to play.”

Calderon wound up playing just under 29 minutes with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting and six assists as well.

About an hour before tipoff Monday night, Calderon said he was completely back to normal.

Listless Raptors lose huge to Pacers

Quote:
In fact they weren't a threat at all, really in the 124-100 rout, never having held a lead let alone threatened the one the Pacers had.

How could they be when 3/5 of the starting lineup may as well have stayed at the team hotel and skipped the game, they were such non-factors in the game.

DeMar DeRozan got his first points of the game with 2:58 to go in the first half. He finished with seven on 3-of-9 shooting. Andrea Bargnani didn't hit the scoresheet until his 18-foot jumper finally found the bottom of the net with 53 seconds left in the first half. He wound up with 12 in the game.

We would include Sonny Weems in this list of invisible Raptors from that first half, but he played just nine minutes, seven fewer than either DeRozan or Bargnani. His total output for the night was eight points.

Credit the Pacers for a fine night from beyond the three-point line, but don't let the Raptors off the hook.

If a mail-it-in-loss in Washington earlier this season was tough to watch, this one was downright eye-gouging.

It also marked the second consecutive game where they went a game aware of the necessity of protecting the three-point line and then, for whatever reason, failed to do anything about it in the game.

It boggles the mind.

Feschuk: Raptors’ loss to Pacers a game of ‘What if’s’

Quote:
“You can’t take things personally. And I took a lot of stuff personally in Toronto,” Ford said. “I mean, I think I was the fall guy for everything in Toronto. But it was hard and it was frustrating because I gave Toronto my all, every night, whether it was good or bad.”

Ford said he still keeps in touch with a long list of ex-Toronto teammates, among them Jason Kapono, Morris Peterson, Fred Jones and Kris Humphries. He even listed Calderon and Bargnani among his friendlies. Noticeably absent from Ford’s rundown was former Raptors all-star Chris Bosh. Once close friends, Ford said they are no longer.

“I guess you could say we, uh, grew apart,” Ford said of Bosh. “No bad blood. We never got into any argument. Sometimes that’s how relationships end up. There’s really no answer about what happened. It just happened . . . That’s part of the NBA. It’s a business.”

Pacers clobber Raptors

Quote:
Jose Calderon scored 21 points and Amir Johnson added 15 for the Raptors. Andrea Bargnani, who entered the game averaging 20.7 points, was held to 12 on 5-for-11 shooting.

“We have to come with more energy,” Bargnani said. “We have to come more prepared, especially in the first and second quarters. It seems like we are just watching the other team play and we are doing nothing.”

Toronto had won six of nine, including victories over Boston and Oklahoma City.

“We have to do it every day,” Calderon said. “We have to play as a team every night for 48 minutes.”

'Pathetic' Raptors beaten easily by Pacers

Quote:
Talking to Rogers Sportsnet at halftime, Raptors assistant coach P.J. Carlesimo the team’s effort “pathetic,” and it was not just the defensive effort. In all facets of the game, the Raptors appeared to lack focus, among other things.

Certainly the defence was the most glaring problem. The issues were widespread, although particularly evident on the perimeter. The Pacers owned the paint, and as a result, took target practice on a lot of uncontested three-point shots. It was simple drive-and-kick basketball.

Indiana hit nine three-pointers in first half alone, including four from Brandon Rush. Throughout the game, and especially in the Pacers’ 37-point second quarter, the Raptors were lost trying to navigate Indiana’s screens. Open looks were the obvious outcome of that.

It was a continuation from Sunday afternoon, when the Raptors had no real answer for the New York Knicks, either. Instead of Raymond Felton, Amar’e Stoudemire and Wilson Chandler doing the damage, however, it was Rush, Roy Hibbert and Danny Granger.

Pacers find shooting touch, beat Toronto

Quote:
The ball was protected. There were quality shots. There was good defense.

There was an easy victory for the Indiana Pacers.

The Pacers, who ended their road trip with two disappointing losses, bounced back with an impressive 124-100 win over the Toronto Raptors at Conseco Fieldhouse on Monday.

The win moved the Pacers, who play at Milwaukee on Wednesday, a game over .500 again.

The Pacers (10-9) regained their shooting touch. They shot 55 percent from the field, including 50 percent on 3-pointers.

Guard Brandon Rush came off the bench to score 26 points, including 6-of-8 on 3-pointers. He made his first four 3-point attempts.

Forward Danny Granger had 21 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

The flat chest doesn't qualify her as a Maxim reader.

Why does the Sun say that Jose scored 13 and the Globe say that he scored 21? Or is it just the lack of caffeine in my system?

Also, what kind of a name is Jazmyn? Seriously?

Are we doing this for free, or is there some sort of payment involved?
