Raptors finding that winning touch

Quote:
Kings coach Paul Westphal hit the nail on the head.
“We blinked,” he said. “We missed, they didn’t.”
It’s a scenario that is playing out late in games more and more frequently where these Raptors are concerned, Sunday’s 115-104 win over the Sacramento Kings was just the latest.
For the better part of three quarters, the Raptors do enough good things and just enough bad things to keep a game close. But with the game on the line, these Raptors find a way to close things out and that more than any reason is why they have won nine of their past 12 and are openly talking about a playoff push and even home court advantage for the early going.
Sunday’s fourth quarter magic was the perfect combination of improved defence and a stellar offence that involved just about every single Raptor on the floor.
Down three to start the fourth and behind by as many as seven less than a minute later, there was no panic on the Raptor bench. These Raptors are past that point.
Since that now mythical meeting back in early December in Washington, the Raptors have followed a set script with the odd tweak where their late-game philosophy is concerned. They play their traditional defence for the first three quarters and then depending on the score and what bodies are still available make an adjustment that has rarely failed them

Hedo faces up to it

Quote:
“I just had to keep fixing it," Turkoglu. "It's not just the mask, but the straps, too. They move up and down. When I run, I have to keep fixing it. Sometimes, driving I can get hit and it moves, but when I get used to it, I will feel more comfortable."
Through it all, Turkoglu managed 16 points and five assists and, while he did wind up fouling out late in the fourth quarter, even that wasn't such a bad thing as it gave the announced crowd of 18,007 the opportunity to give him his own round of applause.
"It wasn't that bad, at all," he said of the mask. "I just need some time. A couple of more games and hopefully I'll be done with it and won't have to wear it again."
On Friday afternoon, Turkoglu surprised the team and those around it when he announced he would not be wearing the protective mask for the game despite being advised to do so by team doctors and management.
A day later, after numerous phone calls from friends suggesting he do the smart thing and wear the mask, and a harder sell from management and its doctors on the necessity of the protection, Turkoglu relented.

Raptors Replay

Quote:
NOT QUITE EVERYONE
The Raptors returned three injured players to the lineup in Hedo Turkoglu, Jose Calderon and DeMar DeRozan but lost another. Marco Belinelli was on the inactive list with a sprained ankle. Chances are coach Jay Triano could have a full complement of players for the first time this season on Wednesday against the Sixers when Reggie Evans could be in uniform for the first time this season.
BOWLED OVER
In the six games he has played on Super Bowl Sunday since coming into the league, Chris Bosh now is averaging 24.2 points, 11 rebounds and shooting .649 from the field.
STAT OF THE DAY
This from Paul Jones' Twitter account: "Sacramento's Tyreke Evans is trying to become only 1 of 3 rookies to avg 20-5-5 in his 1st season. Michael Jordan, Oscar Robertson, LeBron James, are the others. Pretty good company if he can do it."
BOWLED OVER
There was a about a five- second pause after Triano was asked what he thought of Turkoglu's mask. It produced the best response of the day. "Ball," Triano said before walking out of the interview room.

Knowing just when to party

Quote:
"I caught him early before the game," Wright said of Kings rookie sensation. "He looked a little tired. A little sleepy. It's hard to play in these 12 p.m. games."
As for Wright himself?
"Nah, I'm going to celebrate Sunday. I've got experience with 12 p.m. games. I know what to expect."
Not only did Wright do a job on Evans in the latter stages of the game, he contributed in a big way offensively with 10 of his own 18 points coming in the fourth quarter.
He and the rest of the Raptors, meanwhile, held Evans, who is averaging 20.5 points a game to two points and five assists in the entire second half and 11 points altogether.
Wright, like a lot of the rest of the league, is becoming a big fan of Evans, who is the heavy favourite to take home rookie-of-the-year honours at this point in the season.
"He's a good young player," Wright said. "We just did a good job of not allowing him to get into a rhythm."

Poised Raptors crown Kings

Quote:
There is a quiet confidence oozing from the Raptors these days, nothing too brash or openly boastful or overly demonstrative.

It's a professionalism that comes from confidence and a feeling that they will win games rather than a hope that they will.

It was there again on Sunday, some patience and lockdown defence and a simple knowledge that they would take care of business.

"I think we believe," coach Jay Triano said after the Raptors put away the Sacramento Kings 115-104 at the Air Canada Centre, Toronto's seventh straight win at home. "This is a group that believes and throughout the game sometimes you might wonder but down the stretch I think that there's a real comfort level that we can close it out."

Chris Bosh wavers on joining U.S. at world championship

Quote:
"I don't know where that came from, really," Bosh said Saturday. "I have not fully committed. I know there's a whole bunch of stuff going on this summer, I just want to attack that first."
The "whole bunch of stuff" refers to Bosh's impending free agency and the decision on where he'll play next season. Until that gets squared away, he's not about to reprise the role he played on the U.S.'s gold medal Olympic squad.
"It depends on how fast it is," he said. "That's a quick turnaround. (NBA) negotiations start July 1, there's a (USA Basketball) mini-camp mid-July and then a month later (the worlds).
"I just want to take care of my business matters first and there's no telling how long that'll take."

Raptors Blog

Quote:
One question to three guys:
“Who’s going to win?”
Alvin Williams: “The Eagles.”
All-knowing Beat Grunt: “Saints by 10.”
Jarrett Jack: “The Argonauts.”
Yes, I believe Jarrett will become a local favourite quite quickly.

Bosh leads Raptors past Kings

Quote:
As Turkoglu grabbed the mask that has tormented him over the past couple of days, teammate Antoine Wright let loose with a loud, mocking laugh and Turkoglu could only chuckle as he strapped it in place.
After that, the rest of the Raptors played like masked avengers, as well, locking up a stubborn opponent with yet another ferocious defensive effort in the fourth quarter to emerge with a 115-104 decision at the Air Canada Centre.
The win was another example of Toronto's ability to close out games with near flawless precision, a trait that by and large was absent during the early portion of the NBA season when the team was struggling.
“I think we believe, this is a group that believes,” Toronto coach Jay Triano said about the Raptors' late-game confidence. “Throughout the game sometimes you might wonder, but down the stretch I just think there's a real comfort level and we're able to close out.”
With the victory, the Raptors (28-23) won for the seventh time in their past eight games. They are 13-1 at the ACC since Dec. 13 and show no signs of letting up.

Strong effort from Bosh pushes Raptors past pesky Kings

Quote:
The reviews for the mask are in.
"That [thing] is terrible," Sonny Weems said.
"I'd give it a two [out of 10]. I think he should scrap it," Antoine Wright added. "It's horrible. I'm on his side. He's really not that good-looking of a dude anyway. The mask doesn't help him at all."
When asked what he thought of the look, even coach Jay Triano could not give a straight answer.
"Ball," Triano said, mocking Turkoglu's famous one-word response to a question of a few weeks ago while deflecting the need to actually answer this particular question honestly.
With each answer came a smile (if not a dismissive shake of the head at the mask's stylistic merit). That should not come as a surprise, though: These are the good-time Raptors.

Kings can't win, even outside U.S.

Quote:
The issue with the Kings on a clear, nippy Canadian afternoon, on a day their slump stretched to six consecutive losses, had nothing to do with the noon tipoff (Eastern) and everything to do with missed free throws, missed opportunities and not enough misses by Toronto's Chris Bosh.
"This is one of the more ridiculous pieces of scheduling," coach Paul Westphal said Sunday before the Kings dropped a 115-104 game at Air Canada Centre. "I don't know if anybody's done this before. They don't have to send someone from the West. Send Detroit!"
The scheduling was more than a bit odd. As if the Kings needed additional help stacking defeats in bunches, the turnaround time following their flight was brutal. They arrived in Toronto at 7 p.m. Saturday and awakened around 8 a.m. Sunday. They ate breakfast and bused to the arena around 10 before encountering the Raptors and old friend Hedo Turkoglu.
But somewhere along the way, coffee must have been served, because Westphal had no complaints afterward about the schedule, the three-hour time change or his squad's effort. This wasn't comparable to the recent clunkers, except for the final outcome. The Kings gave one of their most energetic performances, even taking a 91-84 lead on Sean May's jumper with 11:11 remaining.
Against one of the Eastern Conference's better clubs – granted, the teams are almost mirror images when it comes to defense – the Kings moved the ball, received a mostly exceptional floor game from Tyreke Evans (nine assists) and scampered for 36 fast-break points. They also outrebounded the Raptors and had six players in double figures.

Actually i looked at her again and i'd give her a 7/10. Nothing wrong with a solid 7? And it has nothing to with Janet Jackson, even though whenever i rate something like this it's constantly brought up.

I bet you the SSG is a better dancer and singer than Janet too.

Probably wouldn't use the family name and a huge team of songwriters/producers to suduce mindless fans into thinking she has talent either.

She is far too young for me to rate.

I also find this rating system to be cold and misogynistic.

That said, how any of you young feller's can cut these beautiful young women up like you do I will never know.

These gals wouldn't look twice at most of you soft palms. Show um some respect.
