Get well soon, Bosh

Basketball life without Chris Bosh has been difficult for the Raptors, a team that gets exposed and, at times, abused minus its anchor.
When a franchise player is unavailable, good teams look to their supporting cast to shoulder the burden, to demand the ball on offence when a play needs to be made or get on teammates on defence when rotations aren’t tight and decisive.
As they prepared to play the host Rockets on Monday night, the Raptors still were searching for a way to play a decent team without Bosh, who remained in Toronto nursing a sore ankle.
Three straight losses followed the Raptors into Texas, but it’s the long-term that should worry followers of the team.
As if anyone needed to be reminded, Bosh has the option to exercise an out-clause in his contract this summer and explore free agency, a negotiated right he earned and will pursue.
Bosh has opened the door to staying because he hasn’t said that he was leaving.
An open-minded individual, Bosh will explore all options, which is what he should and must do.
As he watches his team, Bosh can’t be pleased with what he sees.

Everything's bigger in Texas, like losses

In the heart of Texas, the Raptors played with none in a truly embarrassing performance that evoked ugly memories of their early season misadventures and misfortunes.
There have been recent signs of slippage, but Monday’s massacre at the Toyota Center has to send a wakeup call for a team that is supposedly gearing up for the post-season, which was once considered a certainty.
Already at a disadvantage minus Chris Bosh (ankle), the Raptors learned just prior to tipoff that Jose Calderon wouldn’t be available because of an injured elbow.
It got worse when Hedo Turkoglu couldn’t answer the bell to begin the second half after he hurt his ankle in the second quarter.
But losing three core pieces are merely excuses. What was inexcusable was the lack of effort and fight, an unwillingness to compete and a reluctance to show any sense of professionalism and pride.
Add it all up and it amounted to a putrid 116-92 loss.

Shorthanded Raptors lurch to another defeat

With Jose Calderon sitting out due to a cut on his right elbow, Hedo Turkoglu taking the second half off with a bad ankle and with Chris Bosh back home in Toronto nursing his sore left ankle, the Raptors were drilled 116-92 by the Rockets here Monday in a game that evoked memories of the horrific defence of the first six weeks of the season.
And coach Jay Triano sounded some warning signs after the loss.
“I don’t know what you mean about playoffs. I would say that we’re not even close to being in the playoffs yet,” he said when the topic of the post-season was broached.
“We’re going to be in a fight until the last day in the schedule. Milwaukee’s playing well, Chicago’s playing well, Charlotte’s playing well. We’re going to be in a fight for a playoff spot right down to the very end.”

Raptors routed by Rockets

Kevin Martin and Aaron Brooks scored 28 points each in three quarters and the Houston Rockets rolled to a 116-92 win over the struggling and beat-up Toronto Raptors on Monday night.
The Rockets led by 32 after three and both teams played mostly reserves the rest of the way.
Houston scored the first five points of the game and never trailed in this one as the Raptors dropped their fourth in a row in their sixth straight game without All-Star Chris Bosh.
Bosh did not make the trip as he deals with a sprained left ankle and Jose Calderon missed the game with an elbow injury. Hedo Turkoglu scored four points in 15 minutes in the first half, but did not return after halftime because of a sore ankle.
Marcus Banks led the Raptors with 15 points and Andrea Bargnani added 14.

Rockets tear apart Toronto

The Rockets could not get even. But they could do the next best thing. They did it to someone else.
A game after the Utah Jazz ripped their defense, the Rockets tore through the Toronto Raptors as easily. They whipped the Raptors from the first minute until they cleared the bench with the fourth quarter still to play to take a 116-92 feel-good win Monday night at Toyota Center.
“We shot it well, moved it well, and after the first quarter … I thought we defended pretty well,” Rockets coach Rick Adelman said. “We did what we needed to do.”
They did just about anything they wanted to do.
A game after the Rockets allowed 133 points and the second-best shooting night any opponent had against them, they rolled up 97 points in the first three quarters.

I'm guessing Meredith has plenty of time for laps in the pool.
