Triano, Bosh believe Raps close on D

Quote:
Raptors head coach Jay Triano has found himself increasingly on the defensive about his team's lack of defence.
The 7-11 Raptors, losers of their past three games, have given up the second most points in the NBA (109.27) and Triano's assertions that the club's defence eventually will improve is starting to fall, if just a notch, on deaf ears.
But Triano remained steadfast yesterday in the belief that, eventually, his club will come together on defence, adding that he sees positive signs, such as when they switched on defence and went to a zone coverage in a 113-94 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Sunday. Triano said, for instance, that the high-flying Suns, who lead the NBA in scoring (averaging 112 points), were 13-for-31 on possessions when the Raptors switched.
"I think we're close. It's just a matter of finding the best way to manage the personnel we have on the floor, at both ends of the floor," Triano said. "Do we think about tweaking things a little bit? Yes. But at the same time, we committed to this (new system) through training camp and want to give it a chance."

No extreme makeover for Raptors' D

Quote:
Change is good, the Raptors have decided.
Now all they have to do is figure out how significant or noticeable it should be.
With his team failing to consistently implement the defensive system it's been working on since training camp, coach Jay Triano agrees it might be time for some "tweaking" of basic principles employed by the majority of NBA teams.
Whether that means more switching, more double-teams, more zone or more stuff unrecognizable to the casual observer is still open for discussion.

For Raptors, the defence rests

Quote:
After watching the Toronto Raptors look nothing short of awful during their last three games, all losses, the temptation is to suggest some changes, any changes.
Bench DeMar DeRozan; bench Jose Calderon; bench Andrea Bargnani; start Amir Johnson; trade them all. Something.
It is easy to understand that reflex. The Raptors' surrendering an average of 114 points per game over the last three games has been awful to observe.
"Change doesn't always equal success," forward Chris Bosh said . "The only change that we can do right now is in the way we play, and that's it. Yeah, it has to come from within right now.
"You can't just let [a losing streak] dictate the whole season. Sometimes people are ready to panic and that's it. Come later on in the spring, sometimes you forget about this if you're successful."

Saunders, Jamison advise Arenas to be patient

Quote:

Gilbert Arenas has topped 20 points just once in the past seven games after scoring 20 or more points in seven of his first eight games. The decline in production has been especially noticeable the past two games, as Arenas has failed to reach double digits and scored a total of 15 points on 7 for 18 (38 percent) shooting. Arenas opened up last Saturday about his frustrations as the season has dragged on, admitting that regaining his pre-injury form has taken longer than he thought it would.

On Monday, Coach Flip Saunders said that Arenas's passive play, as a scorer and facilitator has been noticeable. "He's not confident right now. Everyone goes through it. Baseball players, hitters go through it," he said. "Right now, it's probably because a lot of factors are involved. But it's not going to stop him from shooting -- it shouldn't. He has to understand, it's going to come at some point."

Gilbert Arenas having some offensive problems in recent games. Enter Jose Calderon, the cure for all point guards who are suffering offensively. Want to drive to the rim, the lane is always open. Want to have an open look, the shot is yours, but you may hear some clapping of hands that may distract you. Lets see who wins, a healthy Calderon or Gilbert Arenas who is suffering from lack of confidence and lingering injuries from his multiple operations. I put my on Agent 0.
