Toronto Raptors looking to give Rudy Gay the best shot possible

Quote:
The conversation has become nasty, especially considering Gay, at his best, is a considerable asset. Last year, this was the worrisome reality: Gay’s usage rate, which measures how often a player ends a possession with a shot or turnover, put him seventh among forwards; his true shooting percentage, which gives some added weight to free throws and three-pointers, placed him 57th. The Raptors’ goal this year is to ensure Gay is in position to be the most efficient scorer he can be.

Coach Dwane Casey has spoken about changing where the team’s shots come from, and that starts with Gay and DeMar DeRozan. He wants to instill sets that allow both to live in the paint — Gay has bulked up, which should help him in the post — and in the corner behind the three-point arc. This is easier said than done, since those are the best spots to score from on the floor, and defences know it. But Casey said he would be pointing at shot charts all year long.

“We’re not saying, ‘Rudy and DeMar, don’t take those shots,’ not at all,” Casey said. “But for every one you take, don’t give in with the next one. Don’t give in and take the fade-away jump shot.
Raptors’ Landry Fields relies on his faith to carry him through

Quote:
It was the most tumultuous year of Landry Fields’s life, a year of great change, great love, great trials and great challenges.

He had no fun at his chosen profession, as nerve issues in his right hand took his love of basketball away from him at times and frustrated and confused him beyond believe. But he balanced that with a marriage and the birth of his first child, two live-altering events that could shake a man to his core.

It was a time of great upheaval, of joy and sorrow, a difficult time to keep the balance necessary to function, to not let the challenges of his professional life get in the way of the joy of his private life.

Lesser men might have let one affect the other, they may have given in to despair about the challenges of work and let it have an impact on their private lives.

But Fields makes no secret about what kept him going, there is something at his very core that allows him to have perspective, to understand there is a grand plan and a greater power at work.

He is a man of great faith and it carries him.

“It’s everything,” the Raptors swingman said Tuesday. “When you’re in your darkest days, that faith in God is really the only light. As long as you have some kind of hope in whatever situation, you’ll have no despair; despair is the absence of hope.

Less is more. More or less. But mostly less. Or should that be more?

Landry's darkest days are not something I need to hear about. Ick. Just an icky guy.

And what's with the grammar? Doug needs a holiday or something.

Yep. Whenever I hear "he's guided by his faith" and it's not about some crazy hardship in his family or life I think to myself 'here we go again...' How about guided by hard work to get back on the court stronger than ever!?

Do people expect Lowry or Gay to say, "Yeah, we could use the help. I actually banged my head, might be a concussion. Seeya next September!!!"
