I really disagree with a few of those teams being characterized as relying on lottery picks alone.

Memphis = a big part of their success is due to Randolph and Gasol. They were acquired through trade.

Clippers = they took the next step this year by making a huge trade and acquiring pieces through FA and smaller trade.

BTW, Portland never got passed the first round and are back to rebuilding. And Roy's bad knees probably played a significant role in them getting him in the first place.

Also, even though OKC and Minnesota are on the rise (without injuries, Minny would have finished strong), both teams have had a handful of top 5 picks or higher to build their team. The Raps are too good to tank right now. Any picks they add in the future, will be late lottos at best.

If Toronto is not going to trade any picks, Indiana is probably the closest model the Raps could hope to follow, because the Pacers built with later picks and capspace.

Personally, until we know who is on the board at #8, I'm really conflicted about what I'd like to see done with the pick. But if we get another pick from this draft coming back, it would be much easier to accept trading it.

At the end of the day, I can see some decent arguments for keeping the pick or for using it to acquire a vet wing. If we're making a trade, I just hope we don't overpay badly and lose cap space, the pick, an additional young asset all in one swoop.

I don't see any point in arguing as nobody here has a clue what is going to happen. It's fun to speculate, hope, whatever, but in the end, everything will happen in the 11th hour.

for some times i read the thread about our futur (present futur in fact), and i agree.

but i also think like other, it's maybe too soon to go to quick ahead.
I understand casey whom is willing to go forward ,ext season. But too quick and we may fall as quick as we will rise, even quicker.
If we can trade jose (for example) for a solid top 10 pick and more capspace, i think that could be a solid thing to do.

liekwise, a team with 3-4 rookies in this draft can be solid for the futur.

but in fact nobody know nothing, even BC, so i hope i can do his best to imrpove the roster (trade, draft or FA) Whetever the plan, we need a better team to be a real contender in the near futur.

Gotta know if somebody slips! Who is on the board?! Multiple sources said Colangelo had a deal in place with the Pistons during last year's draft, but once Jonas was available, the deal fell through. Same shit could happen this year.

Thats exactly what I mean. I wish they did that War room draft thing live..clearly they can't, but how fun would that be?

1 trade isn't going to mask other player's/the rest of the team's deficiencies. I just don't want this team's ceiling to be 2-3 first round playoff exits.

Nobody does, but a Nash, DD, Gay, Bargs, JonasV or more realistically a Jose, DD, Gay, Bargs, JonasV starting 5 would do that.

2-3 first round exits? So before we know how Jonas will do, and we're assuming no deals will be made in the next 2-3yrs to add pieces/depth you're assuming that we can't win a round? Ok, we don't get Gay or Iguodala for that matter.....what players do you think we'll get that are better through the draft or otherwise? As a Raptors fan if you can get a player of this magnitude and you don't get him, when you are ready down the road to add pieces you may have to settle for less depending on what is available. Ultimately in this market with what we've been through you seriously can't be that picky, can you?

And take a look at that starting lineup and picture Valanciunas being what he's projected to be, no more/no less and tell me we can't make some noise in the playoffs. Maybe not next season but possibly the following season.

I'm not saying I wouldn't like those players. Just I don't want the raps to become the knicks. Also, Nash, DD, Gay and Bargs - 4 guys who are known for scoring only. I also don't want to see DD sign for an extension that Bargs' got.

You mean sign an extension thats ridiculously economical for the skillset that Bargs has?

Old adage is whoever gets the best player wins th trade. So we trade 8 for 15 and an average player and we... do not win. This team needs talent not depth.

Iguodala would be the best player in the deal so your conclusion is baffling. And #15 may turn out to be a better player than #8. Nobody has a clue what player beyond 5th will end up being.

I think he just meant that DD doesn't deserve anywhere near the money Bargnani got... and he's probably right.

i would be worried about trading if hte bulls are interested in moving in the draft, especially the fact that there close to a championship, there willing to break there team up for player in the draft that is in our range,

so no 1 who is that player, and did anyone see san antonio draft pick last year, i'm pretty he is better than george hill and the pacers got slaughtered in that deal, cant get a leonard in free agency but you can find a george hill in free agency, most players of any value usually get retained by there team, batum stays with portland gordon stays with new orleans etc,
