Good grief. Worst post ever.

This fanbase has such an inferiority complex and cry foul all the time with conspiracy theories, some perception of American media treatment, etc. etc. I am saying that's weaksauce. Like i said before you want to change your culture? then actually change your culture instead of talking about it. You want to "fuck brooklyn"? Then fuck them by beating them. and i'm not criticizing MAsai because i think he was just caught up in the emotion of the whole thing, but the point is this team has a long way to go before they can expect league wide respect.

You disagree with me? You think the Raptors are better than the outside perception? I'd like to hear why.

I don't disagree...

I never said they're some great team by any stretch. But over the last 14yrs no other team in this city (out of the 4 major sports) has made more playoff seasons than the Raptors. Sad as that sounds it's a fact, yet they get less respect in and out of the city and get less of a benefit of doubt then the other teams outside of TFC. One of the other teams goes on a run and their future looks sooooo bright, the Raptors win 48 games and some still bring up our past failings and how they have to keep winning to prove anything. I believe the culture for this team is changing and it starts by saying fuck it, this is what and where we are. The sports landscape in this city has been pathetic my whole life other then the blue Jays for a short time.

I believe that this team is starting to turn the corner and changing the "culture" but it'll take a while before they get respected. There is a major double standard in this city and country when it comes to sports. Some teams get a lot more benefit of the doubt and are easier to buy into and others it's like pulling teeth to get an inch of respect or buy in.

You do realize the "some" you speak of includes you, in thousands of posts nonetheless, right?

Oh, no doubt i'm a pessimist by nature. Hard not to be at times, but i also have some positive posts including liking the players we currently have and i like the direction we're going. I even picked us to beat the Nets. That being said, you're right i am part of that a lot of the time. I don't disagree that this team just needs to win and maybe they will eventually get some respect, but i stand by the fact that there is a double standard when it comes to sports in this city/country.

Unless we have someone on this team that Americans want to see then this team will continue to get the shit end of the stick. I was listening to the Donaghy interview with Jeff Blair today, and conspiracies aside, the point he makes about ratings between a Brooklyn-Miami series versus a Toronto-Miami series is all you need to see how the best case scenario for the league is if the Toronto-Brooklyn series goes to seven, is hard fought, but in the end the Nets win out. All four of the Miami-Brooklyn games were broadcast nationally, and the american media has been developing the storyline of Brooklyn being the lone thorn in Miami's side. All that hype goes out the window if Toronto wins. The refs will make damn sure that at least one our key players gets into foul trouble early. It isn't a conspiracy. Just a sound business model based on decades of David Stern's star-driven model for more and more revenue.
Defence isn't going to win us the series because the refs can see through that. The refs can't however erase points from the board. The only way the Raps win is if they shoot above 55% every game and get to the line a moderate amount of times.

I agree. I'm sick of the whining around here. People seem to think that now that we've won some games (in a year where we were supposed to be terrible no less) that we all of a sudden should deserve to be loved and respected by all things NBA. The Raptors have been a joke for the most part during their 20 years of existence. Say what you want about the Leafs and Jays, but those two teams have gone the distance multiple times and proved to be winners.

Until we can put a good product on the court (and this season has been a step in the right direction) we will continue to be the red headed step child of this city and continue to be ignored by much of the NBA.
