D. Smith: League wants to eliminate player handshakes

D. Smith was just on the Fan 590 and here's a quick update from camp ( not much, but i'm craving anything Raptors right now):

-League doesn't want anymore player handshakes/fistbumps (H1N1)
-Belinelli impressing everyone with his overall floor game, passing ability including the players. Calderon says Belinelli has a flare for quick accurate passes.
-Triano very business like, this camp seems more serious, no wasted time
-Much tighter ship then years past
-Team Intrigued about transition game with Turkoglu, Jose, Jack, Beli, DD
-Really working hard on containment defence, boxing out
-Reggie Evans is showing tenacity in camp
-Rasho will add anchor on defence, he talks alot on defensive end, will mentor Bargs

Um...they can't shake hands?

Is the league aware they are in close contact with each other when they play and they all touch the same ball?

No. Soon we'll play in bubbles. I wonder where was all this nonsense when players get sick with the regular flu?

Another thing Smith touched upon was that defensively, they "sort of" remind him of the Kevin O'Neill teams, which he comments that they were horrible offensively they were good defensively.

I liked that comment.

they're just freaked out...
seriously though imagine one NBA player got H1N!... odds are he'd pass it on to another teamate... then another... and in a week the plague will have wiped out the entire NBA. the world as we know it would cease to exist.

the paranoia around the actual hand shaking is a bit much, but fist bumping?
fist bumping? even Howie Mandell fist bumps.

I wonder if they'll ban Reggie Evans from ball grabbing?

Seems like they're trying to get rid of the whole pre-game camaraderie thing by using H1N1 as an excuse.

Doubt it. This is a serious public image thing. Churches are banning shaking of hands, offices are installing hand sanitizers in their lobbys and by elevators...its' about a public perception of fighting this threat. Good PR in other words.

umm considering basketball is a contact sport, this idea that they're doing it to prevent the spread of disease is laughable.

on another note, i'm joining jeff on the bellineli love-in bandwagon. i'm getting really excited about him.

As I said, it's for public perception...and since most of the public are ignorant it's rather effective

Is Vince still going to be able to lick his hands before shooting free throws?

I believe he's already stopped doing that, thankfully, due to his domestic situation having fallen apart, since it was all about the kid.
