D. Smith: Jose will be good to go next month

Quote:
Q: About a month ago Jose mentioned in an interview that his leg injury was still healing. Do you know if it has healed? Is their a chance that it won't heal and he'll need surgery?

CJ L, London

A: When I spoke to him early this summer, whenever it was that Bosh was over at his camp, his leg was fine, his finger (on which he had minor surgery after the season) was fine. There is no chance either won’t heal and will require further surgery.

thank fuck for that.

I know muscle strains / tears can be lengthy to get over, but i don't see how it's possible for one to carry over into another season given all the potential time off in between.

Also hopefully he does whatever physio he needs to so that his hamstring doesn't get injured easily in the future.

A healthy Jose = an awesome player.

Sweet Jesus I'm glad he didn't play for Spain this summer.

now he has no health excuses so he better be significantly better than he was last year, especially at the defensive end where he would basically just let his opponent blow by him on every play

I don't care if he plays defence much better as long as he gets more points, assists & less turnovers than our opposing starting pg than I'm good with that.

If he stays healthy, he will be an all star. He can get 15 and 10 a game if he stays healthy.

Ha Jeff... That was my question he answered...

Not sure how accurate his answer was though. Wasn't it like just 6 weeks ago that Jose reported the injury wasn't healed?

i don't doubt his ability to put up numbers that put him into allstar considerations, but i do doubt that he's going to be an allstar based on the fact that at the guard position there are a lot of players that would first be voted by fans ahead of him and second coaches would vote ahead of him

as for putting up numbers, thats such a simple minded way of looking at how good someone is, you have to look at how well he actually makes his team work and you still have to look at him playing defense when his level last year was at a non-existent level

Last year I posted on the possibility that Jose's recovery from his groin tear/hamstring injury would be a significant factor in the Raptors fortunes that upcoming season, (last season).
My concerns turned out to be prothetic, as it affected his play by severly limiting his movement at times and led to him taking time off.

It just proves my overiding point:
when an athlete plays hurt, it hurts his play and the teams play.
Playing hurt should NEVER be considered a sign of toughness, just selfishness.

The nice thing is that this season if he feels as much as a twinge, he won't be looking over at a nervous rookie, and a complete scrub to back him up. I hope he works hard to play solid defense, but doesn't overdo things overall with the playing time.

anything can happen when the games begin. Greg Oden had to go through it. Manu.. I'm just praying that our guys stay healthy during the course of 82 games.

The last doesn't go on that much but that's still a lot of handlers.
