D. Smith: Antoine Wright good to go

Quote:
Antoine Wright, of course, hasnít played yet. Blame Andrea.
Finally got a chance to see Wright yesterday pre-game he said it was a knee bump with Bargnani during practice a week ago that caused the injury thatís kept him sidelined.

He said it wasnít that big a deal but there was some swelling that now seems to be gone and he should be back full speed today, maybe tomorrow.
And Jay told us before the game yesterday that he thought Wright would travel, which means heíd play in Hartford on Wednesday.

No such thing as too deep but i love looking at our rotation.

Jose/Jack/Beli
Derozan/Beli/Weems
Turkoglu/Wright/Weems
Bosh/Evans/Amir
Bargs/Rasho/Amir/POB

That's not in cards for him this season. He may get some starts, but all signs indicate he'll play behind Turkoglu and get minutes here and there at SG, but even that seems unlikely with them liking Jose/Jack on the floor at the same time, plus Derozan Belinelli and the emergence of Weems.

I'm totally with you on that. Kinda disappointed he got hurt though because he will probably struggle for a couple weeks and we won't get to see the real him right away. He's a good one and will fit in nicely because he brings a different set of intangible to the team. If he could improve his shooting range from deep, he would be amazing. He's still young at 25 and i'm sure still has some good upside. Kinda funny, but on this team he's practically a vet!

Yea same. He provides defense and that's something our starting line-p is lacking. We don't need anymore scorers on the starting line-up so he'll be perfect. Then Belli can come off the bench with Derzan and they can both provide a scoring spark.

Wright brings great defence in spades. I think they will find lots of minutes for him once the games start for real. That's the one thing that those others won't provide, like Antoine can. He will become a glue guy on this team.

Come to think of it, Wright will bring a lot of the same intangibles that Jorge brought to the team. Defense, solid jumper when open, toughness, etc. Nothing spectacular, but every team could definitely use an Antoine Wright.

The Raps rotation is definitely still up in the air.
And Weems performing well isn't going to make life easier on Triano.

Wright really only has a 10 game playoff history of performing at a high level. Prior to that Wright was a turnover machine! He only got to play in Dallas because of injuries.

Prior to his brief run with playoff success, Wright was most famous for stepping out of bounds at inopportune moments.

Quote:
A 2008 mid-season trade that send Jason Kidd to Dallas found Antoine Wright tagging along. Once in Dallas, Wright didn’t play much until next season. In the 2008-09 season, Dallas found themselves in desperate need of a wing player and Antoine Wright played in 65 regular season games averaging 23.9 minutes and starting 53 times.

Last season, Wright did average 7.3 points on 41.5% shooting, 0.7 steals and 0.4 blocks. But he managed an even uglier 0.46 assist to turnover ratio than in New Jersey.
see: The Case for Antoine Wright

The 0.46:1 assist to turnover ratio in Dallas was nothing to be proud of - especially for a SG. But he virtually stopped turning the ball over in the playoffs, so hopefully he's figured things out!

In any case, Antoine Wright is a great depth player for the Raptors who might be very important before it's all over this season.

Antoine likes to put the ball on the floor and attack the basket right through traffic, you don't mind the odd turnover when someone's being that aggressive. He scores the majority of his baskets in the high traffic areas.

No kidding he's "good to go" another week on the bench and he would've probably fell off the rotation.

He's basically a 6ppg guy when averaging 20-25mpg. So yeah, he drives once in while but he isn't exactly setting the world on fire, so yeah i would mind if he's not much a scorer and he turns the ball over often.

Saying he likes to drive the ball through traffic, i haven't seen that when i've seen him play and looking at his scoring output, who knows.

Don't worry, you will. That's how he gets his points. That and baseline cuts as well as fast breaks. He really doesn't shoot many jump shots. Playing in Dallas everything pretty much went through Dirk. If you didn't shoot a high percentage, you just weren't encouraged to shoot. He'll find a more significant comfort level here because everyone is encouraged to take the open shot. He's also a year older and will feel more like a vet on this team.

What points, simply put he isn't a scorer and never has been.

The thing about Antoine Wright is that when he plays good, he is a difference maker. Consistancy has been his major problem throughout his career. One night he might score 16 points on 6-8 shooting. The next night he will score 3 points on 1-5 and be totally absent on the offensive end. The only thing that he brings consistently to this team is his defense. It is good as advertised.

Thanks for the input considering you look like a Mavs fan. For us his defence is pretty much the only thing we need. Especialy if he is starting our starting line-p will do most of the scoring and if he provides our starting line-up with good D that will be enough

Not too sure where you got that idea from. He hardly turns the ball over at all. Less than one a game. He had a .83 turnovers per game. Compare that to Kapono who turned it over 3-4 times alot of games.
Maybe you were going by his turnover/assist ratio but that doesn't really mean anything unless your a point guard.
