Raptors D. Smith: Amir or Ed will be gone this summer

Whoever can get him a better package....

Quote:
Q: Hi Doug. I'm wondering about the future of Ed Davis as a Raptor. As you said, he's got more potential than Amir Johnson. However, Johnson plays better alongside Andrea Bargnani. But then Johnson hasn't played well the past season. So what do you think are the odds of each of those three getting moved?

And why do you call Bob McCown "doctor?Ē

Thanks!

Jeff W, Ajax

A: I donít think both of them will be on the roster when training camp opens but I cannot tell you for certain which one might be moved and for what. Itís a logjam that I think Bryan will come to realize he has to address.

I think they'll lean towards trading Amir cus of his salary. As much as I love him over Davis, he seems to be the obvious candidate.

I would rather know the answer to the Doctor question then the pure guess on this.

Inflated? He's owed only 2yrs/12.5Mil, plus one TO @ 7Mil.

That's not that inflated at all imo.

It only depends which gets the better return. That could very well mean dealing Davis instead.

They'd never bite.

If we ante up, they might consider it and just resign Dragic.

until lowry can keep healthy i don't even know if i really want him, but i guess with a PG combo of Calderon and a semi-healthy lowry and uzoh as the 3rd PG, i'll be satisfied as long as the wings get significantly upgraded too

duh ...
I don't think it's a slam dunk (trading one or the other before training camp)., but it's safe to say that we have a logjam at PF and sooner or later we need to convert some of the assets there into an upgrade at the other positions ...

Although I'd be fine with using the amnesty on Amir, what's wrong with a second unit of Ed Davis and Amir Johnson front court, that can alternate wherever with Bargnani, Valanciunas front court? Throw in Aaron Gray and another big man signing and raps are pretty set for a decent season in the front court. Otherwise yeah, Amir is pretty redundant and overpaid. Bayless-Forbes-Kleiza-Davis-Amir is a pretty sweet second unit + whatever changes the raps make including draft picks and free agency. Calderon-Derozan-Johnson-Bargnani-Valanciunas would be my starting lineup.. with Gray coming in if Val isn't as good as we think.

I am definitely against trading Amir.

And trading Ed seems premature, he hasn't had a chance to show how good he could be. Reminds me of Jordan Hill situation. Big men take longer to develop

It is a major logjam indeed with Gray, Valanciunas, Amir, Bargnani, Ed, Kleiza and JJ. But out of these only Gray doesn't have a contract. I can imagine Valanciunas starting and Amir backing him up at C.

I agree. But in this case the money & potential may be to much in Eds favor over Amir...
But who knows? At least its a good problem to have.

If it were me I would trade Amir & Klieza.
& keep JJ & Ed because of the potential & price.

Ed's ceiling is way higher than Amir's.

He already rebounds and blocks shots better.

When he bulks up a little he'll be able to play PF and C at a high level, so he'll be the ideal first big off the bench, and a really good option as a starter at PF.
