Raptors Current roster and what might be next

Lowry
Calderon
Derozan
Ross
Fields
Kleiza
Bargnani
Amir
Davis
Gray
Anderson

That is 11 players committed for next season, i would say Uzoh or Brown will be our 3rd PG which makes 12 players. Therefore there are aboviously more signings and i still say a trade coming.

Possibilities:

- Currently have approximately 2Mil in capspace
- Amnestying Amir Gives us approximately 8Mil in capspace
- Amnestying Kleiza Gives just approximately 7Mil in capspace
- Amnestying Calderon Gives us 13Mil in capspace according to DanH (not going to happen)
- Vet minimum (i believe we'll have a couple of these)
- Buying out Calderon (I hear it would mean 9Mil) gives us close to 4Mil in capspace, then allows us to use the amnesty on someone giving us 9-10Mil in capspace.
-Not sure but i don't think we have the MLE to use on anyone???

Probably missing something, but where do we go from here?

I'm at the point where I'd settle for Deng. Let's make the playoffs, boys.

Here is breakdown of the roaster by each position:

PG: Lowry, Calderon
SG: DD, Ross
SF: Fields, Kleiza
PF: Barg, Amir, Davis, Acy
C: Val, Gray

I don't suggest to amnesty Amir, as he is capable of playing as C, if anything happens to our Center.

We have extra player in PF, so we need to trade one out and fill one PG and one SG/SF.

That will make 13 players in total.

Chicago won't trade Deng for anything cheap.

At the miminum, they will request for DD to fill the gap on their SG.

But DD <-> Deng would not even make sense, so we need to give up few more trade chips.

With the current looking of Bulls' roster, we might include Ed Davis. (No need to include Calderon, as they now have few PGs to fill Rose's absence)

so, DD + ED + some pick (2nd round) would be all that we could offer to Bulls, but I'm not sure if Bulls will ever accept this deal.

I think Magloire will be back as our 3rd Center and Amir will be the odd man out. I also think BC isn't done at SF (maybe just wishful thinking). I also think Jose will be traded if at all possible.

Lowry/Jose/Uzoh
Derozan/Ross/vet?
SF?/Fields/Kleiza
Bargs/Davis/Acy
Val/Gray/Magloire

15 man roster (w/Jose possibly being replaced?)

I'd be okay with our current team, another wing means less minutes for Ross and fields, only guy that is a semi ball stopper is demar but even he doesn't demand the ball. Pretty excited for the team ball we'll probably be about next season, and hopefully JV can be a bigger part than I expect him to be.

I'd like to see ED Davis get more minutes and play a larger role. The next move should be to amnesty Amir Johnson's contract.

Continue to explore Jose Calderon trades but if nothing could be executed by the end of the weekend, just stick with him until PG demand increases during the season.

Our second unit, if kept in the current state, will be key for us. If they play well, they can outplay most second units and help us win games.

I still want to argue with Deng trade...

DD + Davis + 2nd Round Pick for Luol Deng.

That will make this lineup: Lowry - Fields - Deng - Barg - Val
with backup players like Jose - Ross - Kleiza - Amir - Gray , Alan, Uzoh, any other cheap players.

The existence of Deng will be a huge asset for our defensive team, as he has made to All-NBA Defensive second team last year.

I hope for continued patience unless something completely obvious opens up as an opportunity to upgrade. Let's see what works at this point, and who becomes expendable.

With Lowry, Ross, Valanciunas, Fields our talent level is certainly better at those 4 positions. Alot will depend on how Valanciunas and Ross develop as the season progresses as rookies, especially jonas.

It's crazy how most people have been concerned with a single move here, and a single move there, but when you step back and take a look at this roster, I really think BC has put together a fringe playoff team NOW, but it's really built for the future, and love or hate the guy - he really has done what's right for this team (and I hate using this term) moving forward.

It started with the draft last year - with his job on the line - he still goes out and picks Valanciunas. That was impressive, and although it took a lot of people some time to come around on the pick, I can't wait to see Val come over.

I said it before about the Nash thing, I really wanted him here for a lot of reasons, both on the court, and off of the court...but having Lowry as our "back up plan" can and will probably work out for the better.

What BC has done since that pick last year, is build a young team that has a chance to grow together. We have Andrea - who will be our leading scorer, and he's on the older end of the young guys, but after that, you look at the PG spot getting younger (and probably better), you have DD and T Ross - and you can hope that at least one of those work out, but it's almost certain that they will push each other, and show different facets of their game. When you get to the SF position Fields in an upgrade over James Johnson. It may take a bit, but I think Fields will be a better solution to the 3 position as he gives us a two-way player. At the 4/5 spot, we have youth, and can watch Bargs, Ed Davis, Acy, Amir and Val all grow together.

If the roster stays as constructed, we also have a few vets spaced out over the roster with Gray, Kleiza and Calderon (who I think is here until the deadline - sidenote. If BC is trying to get extended, the best proposition is to hold on to Jose, wait for a team to have an injury of unsolved issue at the 1, and then make a trade closer to the end of the year - you get production from Jose for a half of a season, and then it could work out as the best-case scenario for both parties at the deadline).

As much (unwarranted) hate as BC gets, I think even if he's not retained, he has set this team up for the present, but more importantly, the future.

It really does seem like a team that will be 9th-10th, with a shot at the playoffs if everything goes well, but is built for the next few years where one would hope they'd be a shoe-in for the playoffs.

I'm starting to think that any move for a big upgrade at the wing will come next year. This year is about getting out from under that lotto pick to HOU, and setting the team up for future success.

Casey has his alpha leader in Lowry. However, the future of the franchise is not on the development of DD or Ross, but if Jonas will become that star player.

All is good with that roster except the usual problem - the lack of starting quality talent. That's why the first unit and the second unit are so interchangeable, really.

Assuming Lowry is back to his top Houston form and Bargs is back to his form during the impressive stretch early last season, those two would start on most teams in the league. That's not enough, especially considering that we don't have a single All-Star level player and none of them has a legitimate chance of developing into one.

In short - to build a contender, they will have to find a way to tank for a high pick (again, but more successfully this time) or to trade for at least a star, preferably 2.

Forget tanking, not gonna happen. I think if the roster remains the same, other than a couple minor additions BC will look to make a deal for a significant player at the deadline (depending on where we are in the standings) or next summer when we again might have some capspace (10-15Mil i believe). I still really wish we could get Iguodala this summer.
