Default Court Surfing on Messina and the Raps

Quote:
He is known primarily as a tactical mastermind. He can tear into another coach's game-plan and then send his vultures to pick the opposing team's carcass apart in the most precise of ways. The 2006 Euro League Final Four was the prime example as in two separate games, Messina's Moscow team played two entirely different styles. One game they looked like the Phoenix Suns, running and gunning. The next night they looked like the Spurs, relying on defence and a half-court offence to win the championship.
Quote:
Ettore Messina is a strict leader, but still knows when to share a laugh with his men. The issue of American-born players not respecting Messina is nonsense. It's quite simple really. Those that want to win will buy in. The lazy players who feel they deserve to be treated as though on a pedestal will be in for a rude awakening and will not respect him.

But I got news for those players. It's not just Messina. It's called being a good coach. Don't dream of going to play for Phil Jackson, Gregg Popovich or Larry Brown.

Then of course, there is the issue that Messina should come over as an assistant before receiving a head coaching job. That's absolute rubbish. He is more qualified than half of the coaches in the NBA and knows the American game. Would a top-notch NCAA coach have to come in as an assistant first?
Quote:
Manu Ginobli, Andrea Bargnani and Rasho Nesterovic have all put forth their endorsements for Messina to come overseas, with the latter even saying he would welcome a move back to Toronto if that's where Messina lands. And some American coaches, like Cavs coach Mike Brown, have attended Messina's seminars and read his books to improve their own coaching.

Nesterovic, who has made the post-season every season he's been in the NBA, has won a title with the Spurs and is a solid veteran presence went so far as to say "Ettore Messina with the Raptors could change everything and they’d become a winning team." Ginobli said Messina is a "great coach who would do well in the NBA." Remember, that's two guys who have played under Gregg Popovich and won rings trumpeting Messina's horns.

Bargnani also commented on his American teammates' lack of knowledge on his former Treviso coach. When asked how much his American counterparts knew about Messina, Bargnani responded "nothing."

Yea I'd love him here. I think he is a coach that will discipline everyone and that way we won't see players turning into Jamario Moon types of players

Probably because Euro coaches take awhile to get a reputation strong enough to warrant interest from the U.S dominated NBA. I can easily say with alot of confidence that he's probably better then at least half the coaches currently in the NBA. And at this point he'd be 1000x better then the current stiff we call a coach.

Plus i believe that he's chosen to stay in Europe up to this point.

i'd really like for messina to come coach the raptors, then we demote triano to assistant, and get nesterovic back with some veteran leadership.

Why does Triano just get demoted? Is he meant to be here permanently?

I agree! If he isn't kept as Head coach, why does everyone assume he'll stay on as an assistant?

Triano is not going anywhere, he's like the team mascot.
