Could the Raptors on to something on offense?

As per Doug Smith's blog this morning I found this interesting. I didn't realize it till he pointed it out, but the offensive formation certainly worked in Bosh's favour especially in the 2nd half last night. Apparently it was a similiar style we ran last season and had success with too. Which leads me to think now, why did it take so long to use it again?

Gonna change things up a wee bit; we’ll still stick with the things I learned because you can never learn enough but we’ll sprinkle some other stuff in as well.

Way more fun this way.

And away we go:

Three Things I Learned

It’s 1-Up Reverse

Notice a new wrinkle in the Raptor offence last night? Chris Bosh isolated at the left elbow, point guard at the top, three others spaced out on the right side? Worked pretty well, too. Got Bosh to the rim more easily and also created a couple of open jump shots off ball reversal.

Asked an advance scout at the game about it. He said it was something they ran a lot last year, he's got it as 1-Up Reverse, but something he hadn’t seen in a handful of Toronto games this year.

WHAT?
coaching?

what is this?!

Who is this Sam Mitchell character?

In your news thread, Anthony Parker also alluded to there being some new sets and that the team was trying some different stuff.

'bout time.

In fairness it's a much different team this year... different bench, andrea sucking, moon, no tj... bound to make for different plays..and heaven forbid the coach tries to improve his team and bring in more complex offense. In this case with the injuries and such...back to the basics has made a difference but dont' get too hung up on staying with what works...the longer you use the same plays the more time coaches have to plan against it.

Can some please take a cattle prod and shock Bargnani? The kid is lazy. Like a rug on valium lazy. There's no effort on his part. Once lazy, always lazy. I think it's time to trade the kid, while he still MIGHT have some value.

Agreed on Andrea. Aside from about three minutes before his fourth foul, he absolutely disgusted me.

And I think Bargnani is one reason for the change from last season. The plan seems to have been to get Bosh and Bargnani working more together inside, and that just hasn't happened, sadly. And it won't until Bargs decides he is willing to play in the painted area.

You saw that too, eh LX? The kid has all world talent, but I don't think he likes to put the hustle in. I was screaming in frustration at the tele last night when he was on the court. Here's the other thing, when Andre Miller was on him, why was he trying to shoot jump shots over him? Why didn't he take him to the basket? Andrea was MUCH better last season. He was active defensively, and even in the playoffs he looked VERY good. But this season, it's real regression. You're supposed to improve (even if the improvement is marginal), but he hasn't shown that this year to date.

Rumors like this make people believe that Sam is actually coaching this team instead of just telling them to try their best...
