Question Could Joey G be the Key?

I refuse to believe in what Eric implies on his blog from the other day, but do some here agree with him?

Would I like to see him as a consistent figure in our rotation? Definitely, but I have yet to believe that considering he's yet to do much of anything since becoming a pro.

And Graham looked good.

He had 12 points and 4 boards … and looked active on D. He didn’t look like a guy who hadn’t played in a game yet and who’d been sidelined for two weeks.
Graham is an enigma. He has a chiseled body … he’s strong … he’s quick … he can jump out of the gym. But in 4 years he hasn’t been able to put it all together on a consistent basis. Everyone is always talking about his “potential” … but in the end … everyone ends up imply talking about his “inconsistency”.

But there’s the potential (there’s that word again) for Joey G to have a real role on this team this year. Heck, he COULD even start at SF if he were to beat-out Jamario Moon for that role (not likely – but it’s possible). But even as a back-up … the slot is open for Graham. While he was hurt, Hassan Adams did nothing to really push himself into the spotlight as the main man for that back-up role. He left the door open for Joey G to get back into the mix in a hurry.

With Carlos Deflino gone and Jason Kapono being looked at as Anthony Parker’s back up at shooting guard, Graham could get a regular run in the rotation behind (or ahead of) Moon at the 3-spot.

Time will tell.

The thing with Joey is this, he's a real good guy, athletic like no other, good shooter, etc. he just needs to understand what he should be doing. Surely after 4 years he should now know whats up.

There is no reason he shouldnt be the starting SF on this current team, but I for one have no faith in him being able to pull it off.

Fuck, Joey's been the key since he was drafted. He's got the body and he's got the skills.. he just doesn't have the brain. Here's hoping teh lightbulb actually turns on this year.

Yeahm for once it would be nice to see the smoke coming from Joeys ears instead of the Smitches.

lookit, i think Joey IS starting to get it. Don't ask why it took this long. but it just has.

so far this pre-season and past offseason he is showing every inclination that he will be for real. He's going to be a force.

I think Bosh said it best, he over thinks everything. It's not the game is to slow for him, I think it's that his mind is moving to fast for the game.

He honestly needs to just slow his thought process down and just play basketball, again something Bosh said. And again, lately, I'm actually starting to believe he's turning into a player, just might be a late bloomer. Watching him the last few games, he's doing things he didn't do before. He's actually playing with some confidence and I think Smitch starting him has given him that confidence. I actually think that Jamario is in risk of not having a role on this team eventually, IF Joey plays well.

Maybe he'd finally getting that he can't push off when he drives to the hoop. How many times have we seen him do that? It worked in college, and he kept going back to it. If he can pull his shit together, 9-10 ppg and 5-6 rpg wouldn't be out of the question.. and would be nice. Then again.. as long as brings solid D, I'd be estatic.

I just dont want to get my hopes up on Joey......

It seems as soon as I expect something good from him, it doesnt happen.

But I will agree with the fact that he looks different this year than any of the previous ones. :fingerscrossed:

Joey could be the key for SF position ... but the KEY for Raptors success is Andrea Bargnani. Hopefully, both "key" will turn out to be the right ones.

short answer: no ...

long answer: no - he also had a nice stretch at the end of the 2006 season, with several good games in a row.

I haven't seen anything new in his game, he just got more minutes because Moon was being punished. Against the Lakers, he started with 3 missed jump shots, he actually took the team's first 3 shots if I'm not mistaken. If Joey does that in a regular season game, he's guaranteed to get buried on the bench until at least the second half ...

Moon can be turned into a good scoring 2-guard...... BC is on it already.

Moon with who? Kaps

a 2 for one is gonna leave the team short handed and Moons contract is so low that it wont bring anything any good back.

For a back-up centre maybe? God knows we'll likely need one.

I dont know if they can extend him yet, I thought only a 3 year contrat could be extended, but I really have no idea on that at all.

I guess mabey Moon and Hump for a 2 guard and a backup center might work.

Doc, I think we'll end up picking a back up C on the cheap somewhere by the time December rolls around.
