Pistons Could Detroit Go After Bosh This Summer?

But while everyone talks about who the Pistons might acquire, let's ask another relevant question:

When?

The Pistons won't wait until 2010 to try to acquire one of those guys. It is possible they make a big move this summer.

Consider: If you're Toronto -- and from where I sit, you certainly don't look like Toronto, but hey, let's pretend -- then you will try to sign Bosh to an extension this summer. But suppose Bosh is fed up with the Raptors, who have the second-worst record in the Eastern Conference, and he turns down the extension. Toronto would have two options: hope to sign in 2010 -- and risk losing him for nothing -- or trade him this summer.

That is where the Pistons would come in. They could offer Bosh a chance to play with Stuckey and Hamilton on a future contender. But in order to trade for Bosh (or any other star in this scenario), the Pistons need to stockpile all their assets now.

That means guys like Tayshaun Prince, Amir Johnson and Jason Maxiell are potential trade chips this summer. And that means they are unlikely to get traded this week, too.

So the Pistons you have watched for the past three months -- the maddening, tantalizing, frustrating Pistons -- likely will stay intact for the rest of the season. You might love that and you might hate it. But you ought to get used to it.

I did state this a couple weeks ago but some people didn't like getting Prince in return for Bosh b/c he's 29 and young talent should be received instead.

Detroit cannot offers him same money as Toronto... so, either, he has to accept less or try to persuade BC to, first sign him and then trade to Detroit.

Somehow, I don't see BC doing that... besides if he is to take less money he'll probably opt for Dallas or Miami before he would to Detroit.

Why would he leave toronto to play in Detroit.

Toronto has every bit as good a chance as they do in the future.

Detroit ain't looking good to me.

the article is talking about trading him in 2009, not signing him in 2010
it pretty much means if this is true that detriot is feeling the pressure to win next season as they are seeing themselves going downhill right now
in 2010 Bosh is either going to remain here or go to like his hometown dallas
and there's also the chance that he's going to try and hook up with 1 of his LBJ or wade and try to sign with a team together i.e. the grant hill/tmac in orlando thing, but they'd have to find a team with enough money to sign 2 max contracts
so i'm thinking TO and dallas are going to battle it out

Oh, well in that case, see ya later Bosh. Hope you have a great 4 to 5 years in Mo town. Do us a favor, try not to kill us when you play against TO, okay? And let Bargs have a few wide open shots, kay? It's been fun, but i guess that's business. What's LeBrons address. I need to beg him to play for the Raps

I doubt Bosh would go to Mo Town. If anything he will go to Dallas or Houston. Maybe even the Knicks or Cavs but that's it

Probably not to Texas, to much hometown pressure. Plus, they got Dirk

If Bosh has learned anything in his time here, it's that teams can look good on paper but still not get it done. In my mind if he decides to leave he'll go for a team on the cusp..like Orlando for instance, or the Cavs. I'm sure if he leaves he'll want to be with one of his buddies and have a serious shot at winning it all...otherwise why leave a team where he's the man, the franchise...the freakin' country for that matter.

Detroit can talk and bark all they want, they are better than us but they are by no means a championship team they are not even in the top 3 or 4 best teams in the east. Cleveland, Orland, Boston and Magic are all ahead of Detroit.

There are other teams to worry about, Cleveland, Miami, Spurs are just a few, but not Detroit. Even though Bosh wasn't smart in mumbling his displeasure with Toronto (which got leaked to ESPN), he is still smart enough to realize that Detroit is a team on the downside and can't deliver on a championship promise.

The Detroit Pistons are a winning organization with a proud history that has high standards and expectations year in and year out.
Just look at how long they've been able to remain an upper echelon team, despite the mistake of drafting Darko 2nd over-all in '03.
They may not look as good right now but they are dedicated to remaining competitive. The Iverson deal looks terrible but his $20mil comes off their cap after the season.
Losing is just not an acceptable option there. Any player in his right mind would love to play for such a team. Players can legitimately question the commitment to winning here in TO, at least from an ownership perspective.
We would be lucky if the Raptors emulated the Piston's standards of excellence.

our lineup would be.

delfino/parker/draft pick
prince/graham/kapono
boozer/johnson/maxiel
bargs/maxiel/humps

Detroit's offer isn't that special. I like Prince but Bosh could net us a better player. Plus Prince is soon to be 29 years old. Amir Johnson is one of the most overrated players in the league. Maxiel is a solid bench PF but he's a 6'7 banger; there's no way he's cut out to play the center position.

I don't get this trade. We don't need more PFs and Cs. We already have Bargs so it would make more sense i we got a wing in the FA over Boozer
