Default Corey Maggette

anybody else think the Raptors should really push to sign corey maggette? I hear that now the only amount available for him to sign is the mid level contract. If thats the case, I really think the raps should do whatever possible to get him. With JO here, adding a guy like Maggette would put us right up there with the contenders in the east, given how well we would have filled our needs (big man, swingman). Idunno but I really think getting maggette would be huge for the Raptors and they should give it all they have to sign him if at all possible

if the raps sign him with the mle then the raps will have to go over the luxury tax to sign ukic, jawai, and hassan

I agree. But you're not going to get support from many people here. For some reason a 22PPG 6RPG player that gets to the line isn't popular. The only thing is that he won't come here if he gets the same money from the Raptors as he does in more "Sexy" Markets such as Boston, San Antonio.

Can you imagine:

C:JO 20PPG/10RPG (Gets to the line)
PF:Bosh 22PPG/10RPG (Gets to the line)
SF:Maggette 22PPG/6RPG (Gets to the line)
SG:Parker 13PPG/4RPG
PG:Calderon 14PPG/9APG

Knowing that JO,Bosh,Maggette' numbers would all take a bit of a dip because of less shots.

i've always been a fan of trying to grab Maggette...
i wish we could... but realistically, theres no way he agrees to mid level unless its with a proven winner and he wants to go after a ring.
when it all boils down to it, he'll get more then 6 million, and theres no way we can afford him.

No need for a guy here who has the baskeball IQ of a Tic Tac, is a black hole on offense and can't even spell defense let alone attempt to play it.

Can we have a weekly - no no no - a daily Maggette thread? Does anybody else even play in the NBA? And if so why when Maggette is the answer to every question?

No offense sep - but you come at the tail end of a very long parade. Or maybe it's just the middle. Yep - no Santa Claus as far as I can tell.

Yep, and if we sign Maggette to the MLE, we won't be getting another servicable big man, which is essential if you consider Bosh and JO are injury prone and the guys following them are Bargs, Hump, and Jawai...

Not to mention we'd be trapped when it comes to signing Roko and Hassan

But apart from that, there'd be no reason whatsoever that Maggette would come to Toronto when Boston, San Antonio, or the team he started his career with Orlando, are offering.

What's not popular is his basketball IQ and his defense. Wait, what defense? Exactly.
Sure there's a bright side to everything; but for every bright side, there's a dark side. In this case, his dark side overshadows his bright side.
No we don't want a guy scoring on one end then letting his defender get an open lay-up the other.
If he could learn to at least contest a shot then I would sign him up right away. Buuut he just can't..

Theres been so much talk about whether or not we get Maggette. We should try going after him. He's going to have a great year next season, you'll see.

Well everyone wants Calderon here including me,but his defence is very subpar. But most here love Jose and wanted T.J gone,WHY? Because he does other things well like share the ball, great court vision, great team player and doesn't turn the ball over. Now that JO has been added improving our defence,Hassan has been added for defence,Parker is a pretty good defender,Moon is good on defence. So our defence it would seem is much improved.

So IMO,i agree that Maggette is not very good on defence but he does other things well, scoring, get to the line and can get you 6-7RPG.

Not that it really matters because he won't come here.

Sure, Maggette pretty much plays little defence. However - the Raps weren't a horrible defensive team last year despite what might be read around here. They have also added a - (must always add the disclaimer here when speaking of him) when healthy - premier defensive player in O'Neal. So while it would be nice if SF is brought in that he could be defensively competent, and we do have Moon for that, we may have room for a guy who addresses a lot of needs on offence for this team. Especially if they could snag him for the MLE - which is not bloody likely.

Don't get me wrong, I've never been much of a fan of the guy. But I've never been all that fond of O'Neal either and I've come to accept the fact that I'll be cheering him on pretty soon, big forehead and all.

So I'm a bit of a convert in the Maggette discussion. Not that it matters because it's never gonna happen.
