Comparing the Raptors of this year to last year.

Hey all new poster here.

What is the difference between the team of this year and last year's? I don't see a glaring difference. Was the 2 point guard system last year that much more effective? True point guards are able to carry a full load, I like Calderon, don't get me wrong but it's easier to manage ~ 20 min a game then ~ 35. The roster was pretty much similar to this year yet the Raps are way below 500. To me it's inexcusable, they have looked horrible many many times I have watched them.

It seems that all comes down to mental aspect of the game... they had few injuries, lost some games and now their confidence is gone...

BTW... welcome to RF... hope you'll have fun here. :yeah:

Thanks for the welcome. Injuries have been a problem this year with nobody really picking up the slack. I'm most impressed by Joey Graham, he is important for the Raps so long as he produces.

Joey has been playing really well lately but he's never been consistent enough.

Now that JO/Marion trade is done and that Bosh & Jose are healthy we'll see Raps play for the rest of the season... hopefully they do well.

I agree with Ivan - simply put, the wrong things happened at the wrong time and the Raptors have not been able to get into a groove.

RicktheRuler 02-20-2009 08:32 PM

We will see tonight how the Raps do with a full solid healthy lineup. No reason why they can't beat the Knicks back to back.

welcome to rf rick!

Also we lost some of our depth

jeffb 02-20-2009 08:43 PM

-JO got hurt farelly quickly which killed any kind of momentum we might have been able to get.
-Jose hasn't been 100% all seeason, i believe.
-Our PG depth has gone out the window
-AP is getting old
-Our aquired bench players haven't panned out, so we've lost our depth pretty much all together. And that was our strength over the last 2 seasons.
-Moon took a dive from last season
-Sam gone, Jay in! (big mistake imo)

Acie 02-20-2009 08:45 PM

Nice flags Rick.

There was several risks taken that needed to go the Raps way, but unfortunately none of them have worked out.

this is pretty much a perfect assessment of this season. there are a few other bits and pieces, but this is certainly the core. especially about the bench players.

Triano's vision of how this team can win games just isn't matching up with reality. I was actually thinking the other day that maybe SJ was right, and Triano is doing some good things from the ground up, that this team is struggling, but improving at the core as an entire squad. The first 5 minutes against the Knicks right now reminded me how wrong that is, and how shitty Triano is. The fact of that matter is, their is one big difference between last year's team and this year's team.

The Head Coach.

Plenty of things went wrong last season if we try to remember. Firing the coach when he's 8-9 is the biggest difference I see, along with putting more on guys like Jose and Kapono with nobody to pick up the slack on defense. It's like BC doesn't think defense matters at all. At least Sam emphasized it's importance.

bjjs 02-20-2009 10:22 PM

Boy do I miss Sam.

LX 02-20-2009 10:22 PM

I double miss Sam.

Acie 02-20-2009 10:25 PM

Triple miss Sam.

At least he cared.

Gurk 02-20-2009 10:27 PM

I am with you guys. Triano sucks and he looks like he sucks even more because the Raps plaers suck

Renihan_00 02-20-2009 10:48 PM
