Default Comparing Other Teams Core Talent to Torontos

Let's have a look at other teams core talent, and let's see how many teams you would choose the Raptors core of Derozan, Ross, Amir, and Valanciunius over.

BOS- Rondo, Bradley, Green, Sullinger, Olynyk
BRK- Williams, Johnson, Pierce, Garnett, Lopez
NYK- Anthony, Smith, Hardaway Jr., Chandler, Shumpert
PHI- Carter Williams, Turner, Young, Hawes, Wroten, Noel
CHI- Rose, Butler, Deng, Gibson, Noah
CLE- Irving, Bennett, Thompson, Waiters
DET- Jennings, Caldwell Pope, Smith, Monroe, Drummond
IND- George, Stephenson, Hibbert, West, Hill
MIL- Knight, Antetokounmpo, Henson, Ilyasova, Sanders
ATL- Teague, Schroeder, Korver, Millsap, Horford
CHA- Walker, Henderson, Kidd Gilchrest, Zeller, Jefferson
MIA- Wade, Bosh, James
ORL- Afflalo, Oladipo, Harris, Nicholson, Vucevic
WAS- Wall, Beal, Webster, Ariza(+Porter Jr?), Nene, Gortat
DAL- Ellis, Wright, Nowitzki, Calderon
HOU- Lin(+Beverley?), Harden, Parsons, Jones, Howard
MEM- Conley, Allen, Randolph, Gasol
NOH- Holiday, Gordon, Evans, Davis, Anderson
SAS- Parker, Ginobili, Leonard, Duncan, Splitter
DEN- Lawson, Gallinari, Mcgee, Faried
MIN- Rubio, Martin, Love, Pekovic
POR- Lillard, Matthews, Batum, Aldridge, McCollum
OKC- Westbrook, Jackson, Lamb, Ibaka, Durant, Adams
UTA- Burke, Burks, Hayward, Favors, Kanter, (+Gobert?)
GSW- Curry, Thompson, Iguodala, Bogut, Barnes, Lee
LAC- Paul, Griffin, Jordan
LAL- Bryant, Gasol
PHX- Dragic, Bledsoe, Plumlee, Morris twins(+Goodwin, Len)
SAC- Thomas, McLemore, Gay, Cousins, Williams

So out of the above team cores mentioned, which teams would you take the Raptors core over, and why? I've added a poll to see which teams posters would pick, but I'd also like to see their explanation included in this thread. I'm really curious to see which young cores people think the Raptors core are better than(moreso than picking the easy ones like BRK), but mostly just to see how many teams total people choose. I'll post my thoughts later in the thread.

That's a highly debatable list you compiled there. Why leave off Lowry? Who says he's not part of our core (moving forward)?

If you leave off Lowry you might as well pass on Deng, Rondo, the entire Nets squad, Bennett, Waiters, Gortat, Ilyasova etc. All players with questionable futures...

Are we just assuming that arguably our best player, Lowry, isn't a part of our core? Or Vasquez for that matter?

There's probably far more teams that I would take over the Raps core rather than wouldn't so i'll just list who I wouldn't take.

PHX, LAL, Utah, DEN, on the fence with WASH, ORL, CHA, ATL, MIL, CHI if we're assuming Rose's career will never be the same, PHI, NY, BK, BOS

I'd take ours over 9 or 10 of those teams cores listed above.

I got Brooklyn, NYK, Charlotte, Dallas, Lakers, Charlotte, and Philly that I don't take over the raptors' core.

I think the notion that Lowry will be part of our core going forward is extremely unlikely and almost unimaginable at this point. If you really think we're going to retain him in the off season I don't think you've paid attention to our cap situation and the state of the team really. I think the chances he's re-signed in the off season is less than 1%.

In comparison to the other guys you mentioned, the Bulls have stood behind their ongoing stance of wanting to keep Deng going forward, and he's been with the team since being drafted.

Rondo, the entire Nets squad, and Ilyasova are locked into long term deals, and the likelyhood that they stay with their current teams is high due to many factors(Nets situation is all contract related, Ilyasovas is his health, and with Rondo, BOS wont trade him unless its for full value, and that'll come down to health, much like Ilyasova.

The Cavs wont trade Bennett this early and admit a mistake(which may not even be a mistake, people overreacting as usual) unless theyre blown away with an offer., which isnt going to happen at this point anyway.

Waiters could be traded, but hes a second year player who has actually played well this year, and the reports of him being traded have obviously all been rumors that may never happen. I think he's more likely to play out his rookie contract than getting traded at this point.

Gortat is the closest of anyone you listed to being in the same boat as Lowry since hes in the last year of his deal, but I listed him because they traded for him this year knowing his contract situation, thus it being more likely that theyre going to re sign him since they gave up their pick for him. I was debating putting him in, but its slightly different.

In this topic though, I'm going on the likely notion that Lowry will be gone either by the deadline or in the off season. If(when) this is the case, we'll be left with the core as mentioned, so please discuss as such.

Lowry is a FA - that's why. Deng and Gortat yoou have a point there as they are also FAs soon enough.

Rondo, Bennett, Waiters and Ilyasova are all signed past this season. Ilyasova especially is signed for a fairly long time.

Please name some others instead of putting etc.

Why Sactown? They are set for years to come with Cousins, who has arguably been one of, if not the best center in the NBA this year, and Thomas who's averaged 21 and 8 on 46% as a starter. I think those 2 pieces alone trump what we have, because they're a lot easier to build around despite having Gay for another season. Plus McLemore figures to be at least a 6th man type.

Talent wise they are better, but I just don't see them being successful in a long run, too many selfish knucklehead players on that team. jmo

Would you trade JV and Ross for Dragic and Bledsoe? Would you trade Demar and Amir for Morris twins and Plumlee? I wouldn't..

Well define "core" for me please. By core players I thought we meant players that are either important to their team success now and/or will be important in the (near) future. Players that are worth keeping around.

I think the Bucks have already moved on from Ilyasova since he's become redundant, I don't think he's really a part of their present nor the future and just because he has a long contract doesn't make him part of their core... (f.e. Villanueva)

But that's just me nitpicking I guess. I'm also curious why Mayo is not part of the Bucks core yet Knight is. And Webster? Meh...
