Colangelo's draft list: A guard, a SF, Two Bigs

Colangelo says his draft list / wish list is down to 4 guys -- "a guard, a small forward, and two bigs"
Well unless he thinks Knight won't drop to him and isn't including him, Walker is probably not a Raptor in 2 nights.

I would have to say that the list is either

- Knight, Leonard, Biyombo, Valanciunas or Vesely
or
-Walker, Leonard, Biyombo, Valanciunas or Vesely

thoughts?

It's probably Valancinas not Vesely. At least we know Jones V can play in a year, there has been no news on Veselys situation, on top of that he doesn't seem like a fit for what we need.

He may even be getting vibes that Kanter will fall to us?

ye, i say if kanter drops to 5 we take him

Don Vito 06-21-2011 06:20 PM

We don't need a SF in this draft, Leonard has no potential at all... JJ > Leonard. We should keep JJ and sign a SF vet like Jamal Crawford.

jeffb 06-21-2011 06:20 PM

If Indy trades up to 2 to take Kanter, or Washington trades up to 3 to do the same; they essentially hand us Brandon Knight. So I'm in favor of those trades

As it stands expect the @WashWizards to trade up w/ the @Utah_Jazz or @Cavs to take Enes Kanter. Per a source Wiz have him #2 on their board

First off, too early to praise JJ to say the least. Second, Leonard is a great rebounding SF that can play D so we can do worse. And third, Jamal Crawford is NOT a SF.

Great is a bit of an overstatement. JJ is a rebounding SF that can play D as well. He shut down Kevin Durant and alot of other guys.

For a couple months yes, but that does not make a career. You can't simply tie yourself to one player so quickly and disreguard a talented player. And a SF that averages 11rpg is a great rebounder imo.

Leonard is a talented player? Since when? If we draft Leonard it'll be a waste of a draft pick, may as well trade the pick.

Leonard gonna turn into a Joey Graham type of player! He played PF.

So you don't think a SF that averages 11rpg and can play defence has talent? Come on i understand you don't want him drafted, i get that but give me a break. I guess your man crush on Johnson has you a little defensive about getting a SF, but i don't think you have to worry b/c i doubt we pick him. It seems to be a PG or a Big imo.

I think Vesely would be better categorized as a SF.

So, I would guess that the list is:

Knight, Vesely/Leonard, Valanciunus, Kanter

I am putting Knight in place of Walker since I think that there are realistic scenarios where Knight drops to 5. If anyone trades up to #3 with Utah to take Kanter (as has been rumoured), Knight and Walker are likely available at #5.

I don't think anyone has a good read on whether Colangelo prefers Leonard or Vesely, though Chad Ford has consistently paired the Raptors with Vesely.

Gofish 06-21-2011 06:52 PM

Regarding Leonard, I think the key issue is whether he is likely to develop a strong offensive game, including outside shooting. If not, then he might not be that attractive at #5 -- more like Mbah A Moute who is valuable primarily as a defensive stopper at the SF. By the way, isn't M a M an RFA this summer?;)

Don Vito 06-21-2011 06:52 PM

I think its between Bismack and Kemba, either one will impact this team in a good way.

I think Biyombo is another possibility for a big, replacing either Valanciunus or Kanter. I think it is impossible to read the level of interest in Biyombo just now, especially since Colangelo is also probably trying to get a second lottery pick.

I want Kemba or Knight, but i get the feeling Walker isn't in the mix. Hope i'm wrong. All i can say is i pray we move up or aquire a 2nd pick in the 7-10 range.

Aamir 06-21-2011 07:08 PM

I'm not against drafting a SF or getting another one via trade or FA, but I think Leonard is way too similiar to JJ.

Metallikid 06-21-2011 07:11 PM

My guess is Walker/Williams/Valancuinus/Kanter. The logic is that he's expecting Irving to go #1 and Knight to go #2 or #3, essentially leaving us one of the other 4 top 6 guys. I'm including Williams at SF because unless I'm the only one to notice; it seems like his stock has dropped perhaps because teams might not have been as impressed or because the teams who have the top 5 picks aren't looking for a SF. But I'm fairly certain he won't be going top 3 anymore.

Don Vito 06-21-2011 07:14 PM

Before we are so quick to draft a SF we should see what JJ has. He is definitely not short on confidence, and I think he will make a big impact especially under coach Casey. The same applies to Bayless, I actually want to see what he brings next season. The glaring weakness is a center and it could easily be addressed with a guy like Bismack. With Casey coaching Bismack it'll really speed things up. To improve the team right away we will need a big in Bismack, if we choose another way it may have some diminishing returns.
