Colangelo will not be fined and Bosh and Thomas decline comment

Quote:
When LeBron James announced his decision - the decision - to join the Heat, his former boss shredded him. Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert called James selfish and disloyal and said he quit on his team in the playoffs.

Well, move over, Mr. Gilbert, there's another front-office figure making waves.

Toronto Raptors General Manager Bryan Colangelo, who lost power forward Chris Bosh to the Heat in free agency, said his former player milked a knee injury despite getting team clearance to play and "mentally checked out" during a late-season playoff push.

"I'm not even questioning Chris' injury," Colangelo said Monday night on a Toronto radio station. "I'm telling you he was cleared to play subject to tolerance on his part, and the tolerance just apparently wasn't there and he chose not to play."

The league slapped Gilbert with a $100,000 fine and Commissioner David Stern called his response "ill-advised and imprudent."

However, NBA spokesperson Maureen Coyle said late Wednesday that the league would take no action against Colangelo.

Bosh joined James and Dwyane Wade with the Heat in an effort to win an NBA title. Bosh never won even one playoff series in seven seasons in Toronto, blaming it on the team's lack of superior talent.

Colangelo said Bosh deserves his share of the blame, suggesting he is not a franchise player.

"We tried in vain to put pieces around Chris. Different pieces, different styles. It didn't work out," Colangelo said.

Bosh and his agent, Henry Thomas, declined to comment Wednesday. Bosh mentioned nothing of the incident on his Twitter feed, either. Colangelo, who was traveling, could not be reached for a follow-up.

While it wasn't cool for BC to make the comments he did, they weren't done any where near as unprofessionally as Gilbert's were. I see a difference. I'm also glad no one from Bosh's camp are fighting back(including Wade)...let's just let this die.

Jack Armstrong raised a Spockian eyebrow. That must surely be punishment enough. And he's going to have to start from scratch when it comes to kissing the asses of agents.

All ass kissing that transpired previously has been cleared from your record Colangelo. Commence ass-kissing in double-time, and a full octave higher in pitch.

Why is this story getting so much press?
It's always been a non-issue to me.

For POSSIBLY denigrating the character of an NBA player. They needed to consider it as an issue. We look at this as being about the Raptors franchise, but the business side is about the league as a whole, so if a player is going to get trashed, then they are going to look into it, since it could hurt the image of the league as a whole.

But Colangelo knew exactly how far he could and could not go. It still seems to be an odd approach for him to take when he has bent over backwards to make players happy in the past, and keep things from going public, including Hedo's escapades. And really it harkens back to the bush league image that this team suffered from before BC arrived. Which isn't the reality - but perceptions can quickly harm the credibility he has built up.

Of course it is. Other then the injury issue, nothing he said was really news. He's said before someone got in Chris' ear at the all-star break and that he wasn't the same player after the break. And him saying he was cleared to play and could have played if the tolerence was there, is not really that news worthy imo.

lx, man, you've got to be kidding me. bush league? hurt the image ofthe lague as a whole? wow man. he took a couple of jabs, but for crying out loud man, this isn't even close to s suspendible offence. not even remotely close. and i fail to see in any way how this could damage the league.
