yeah, but in doing so they got rid of a redundant position and filled the biggest need with a former all-star starter.

that's somethin'.

JO has the potential to be the biggest impact trade acquisition in Raptors history. If he is healthy and stays healthy/motivated, he is going to improve the team immensely.

Yes, the trade was a typical "high risk, high reward" proposition, the risk part somewhat mitigated by only 2 years remaining on O'Neal's contract.

I look at it this way.

Did anyone really thing we'd be able to get a six time all-star for TJ?

When you look at it that way, that makes it sound even better . I have a feeling that Jawai will be as good or better then Hibbert as I like his footwork alot better then Hibberts. Only thing Roy has on him is a couple of inches in height..... IMO Jawai could be the biggest sleeper in the draft.

Also, how can you say ONLY thing that they did was replace TJ with JO.....lol that is HUGE. We got rid of the only distraction off of the court in the TJ/Jose starting role saga, we still have a capable backup PG in Roko, and now we have a 6 time all star at Center. I think TJ's injury is alot riskier as he is so small. If he continues to go to the rim, eventually he is going to take another shot. If he could have accepted his backup status maybe, but then we were paying him way too much to be a backup.

Its not like we squeeked into the playoffs last year with an 8th seed, so I think we should be in the top 4 in the East with our improvements.

Roko is the key to assessing the true impact of TJ's departure. Even if Jose stays healthy throughout the season, the team has to be able to count on Ukic to play at least 12 minutes of solid ball every game. If Jose goes down, even for a limited number of games, Ukic will have the weight of the world on his slim shoulders - and he'd better be ready for it.

Not saying he won't be - it's just that his position is the single most important job on the floor as far as the rest of the team is concerned.

Hope that Jose makes more easy the transition from european bb to NBA for Ukic. Both have played under the same coachs (Ivanovic, I think) and in a same club (Tau), so they have that kind of cornerstone to understand one each other. Plus Ukic should speak English better than Calde when he arrived, so I really hope Roko is playing decent games (for a newbie) from the next Christmas or so.

At his fist year, I don't expect he wins games for us, but he doen't loose them.

That's got to be enough for a rookie, at least in my books.

With the way our "offence" is set up by the coaching staff, the role of the point guard as the leader and decision-maker on the floor becomes an all-important one. Ukic will have to really make an effort to distribute the ball the way Jose does when he is on the floor.

I agree, and I really think Ukic will look for distributing the ball, he is that kind of PG. Some advices from Calde and I think the guy can do a decent work for a few minutes.

Better he can.

You have a point. No one really thought that.

But it wasn't only TJ. I mean I know Rasho is no Tim Duncan or Amare Stoudamire. But he's not all that bad either and kind of helped set the trade level to even a lot.

But again, you're right, it makes me feel a lot better when you put it that way.

I think Ukic will be by far the best rookie on this squad.
