Default Colangelo says this season is about winning

Quote:
If last season was about developing, Bryan Colangelo says this season is about winning.
The Toronto Raptors held its annual media day Monday to kick off training camp in what the team's general manager called a "completely different atmosphere" from last season.
"You go into a season excited about what the prospects are," Colangelo said. "I cannot say that I went into last season excited about what the prospects were."
A young Raptors squad finished 23-43 in the lockout-shortened last season, but expectations weren't nearly as high as they are this time around.
Jonas Valanciunas may be the biggest reason for the optimism. The 20-year-old from Lithuania was Toronto's fifth pick in the 2011 draft, but the Raptors left him in Europe for another season to continue to develop.
"(Last season) knowing that Jonas wasn't coming over, knowing that it was going to be a struggle to win games, knowing it was part of the long grind of letting the young players play and learn and develop. . .," Colangelo said.
The GM said this year's new-look roster reminds him of the team he assembled in his first full season in Toronto in 2006-07. Andrea Bargnani was a rookie on that squad that went on to win the Atlantic Division and play New jersey in the first round of the playoffs.
"This team seems to have a lot of those same characteristics," Colangelo said. "It just seems to me, with the newness of the group and the chemistry we've seen, the commitment of the players all coming together, spending a lot of time in Toronto. . . there's that feeling there could be something special abut this group but time will tell."

I kind of agree with the 2006-07 comparison, although no way are we winning 47 games. lol

The difference is you don't have no all-star player on your team. I'm hoping the Raps do very well, but winning that many games and making any comparison to the 06-07 squad is not realistic.

well i could see the Raptors trying to adopt how the nuggets played basketball last season. the nuggets never had an all-star so the ceiling for potential wins wasn't up there with the higher up teams in the west, but it is a stable building block to that next level.

Lowry is TJ Ford only better
Fields is a glue guy somewhat like AP (AP was better, but..)
Valanciunas is like Bargnani coming into his rookie year, different types of players but the hype is comparable.

There are similarities in the make up, only this team is better defensively and probably not quite as good offensively. The major difference is in the competition in the EC and specifically in the Atlantic division.

The difference you had an all-star player who was a 20-10 guy who can attract double teams and get to the free throw line night in-night out with good supporting cast who knew their roles. I like the Denver comparison a previuos post had mentioned, but star players win games. Hopefully depth and the strong play of Lowry can win a good share of games this year.

The only way that'll happen is IF we win and not the other way around. To get two all stars we'd have to be about 30-20 by the time voting ends... which is on pace to beat 47-wins.

There could be something special about his group? Haven't heard that before. Smart to compare this team to a succesful makeover though. Oh right, not really much choice! since there was only one! I really find it better not to listen to Bryan at all at this point.

I just don't want another year of taking shit. Win at home. Make the other teams work their asses off.

Heard an interview to him and AJ by Sky Italia and they both told Bargnani will improve (expecially Amir said "He'll be in the ASG if he'll keep playing like last season without injuries". Same thing i said a couple of times here).
