Default Colangelo/Raptors expect a quiet trade deadline

Raptors expect a quiet trade deadline | Basketball | Sports | Toronto Sun

Quote:
Barring something completely unforeseen heading into Thursday’s trade deadline, the Raptors figure to be quiet when all is said and done.

For the rebuilding Raptors, there’s no point in pulling off a deal that compromises the development of their young and emerging core, no sense in adding a big contract when so much salary flexibility has been already been created.
Quote:
“A lot of deals have been talked about, small deals that involve tweaks to the roster. I’d characterize them as opportunity-type deals.”

What are you guys expecting?

I expect BC to make one minor-ish trade.

Well that flushes my hopes of getting Gerald Wallace
I'm sure that we could get him for Reggie+TPE+Miami pick

Fills a need, doesn't hamper young core and is a leader by example.

They're playing pretty good right now since the coaching change. I don't think they'll give him up for a package like that.

They offered him to Cleveland for TPE+pick. His contract drives value down somewhat.

Meh, there's nothing out there worth grabbing right now. I expect very little, maybe picking up a guy who had some upside but has fallen out of favor with the coaching staff.

"Opportunity-type deals".

He's probably going to acquire a failed prospect like Alexis Ajinca or Julian Wright.

they are not failed, just misunderstood!

but Peja for Ajinca setup was opportunity type deal, so we know the scale.

Wonder if BC is listening to proposals to participate in Melo-drama trade. Or maybe he is against helping an east conference team (and same division too) get stronger
(or just taking part in another Isiah Thomas NY destruction plot)

Who's pick? If it's Cleveland's pick then obviously that would be a steal for Charlotte..

yep, they wanted pick from Cle, but Cleveland wanted Charlottes pick instead for taking on the huge contract.

I don't see a problem with a potential deal like that. There are a lot of players who are "system" players, and they play a certain way in college, but then get drafted by a team who plays an entirely different way. Some times those players just need a change of scenery.

At this point, it's a no-lose situation, if we take a flier on someone, and it works out, great, and if we take on someone who doesn't work out, then... I guess it helps tank nation.

No, I agree with you.

This team desperately needs a solid piece, and is probably not going to get it via trade. The only players that have trade value are DeRozan, Bayless, Davis, Johnson and maybe Bargnani. I don't see BC parting with those pieces.

We might as well stock up on young players to cut salary, and hope we find a diamond in the rough.

I would try and get in on the craziness that is happening out for NY and Denver.

There are reports of Denver dealing Danilo Gallinari to the nets for a first.. Raptors can match that.. plus Randolph... nice

A few "experts" were saying that Carmelo was the first domino. I wonder if this makes the chances of the Raptors making a trade more likely, less likely, or no change at all.
